While liberal states like New York are promising to receive abortion-seeking patients from other states with open arms if Roe v. Wade is overturned, Texas lawmakers are pushing for a bill to ban residents looking to end their pregnancy in another state from doing so.
Though it's unsurprising the 6-3 conservative majority on the high court would look to overturn Roe, a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion last week revealed a majority of justices are in favor of overturning the 1973 landmark abortion case sent shockwaves across the nation and spurred local lawmakers into action.
Here's a look at what states have been doing in anticipation of abortion rights being tossed back to the states:
Texas
Texas already bans abortions at six weeks, bypassing Roe by allowing private residents, not the state, to sue those who aid and abet anyone in receiving the procedure. But it also has a 'trigger law' on the books that would make performing an abortion a felony within 30 days if Roe was overturned.
Unlike the current law which is civilly enforced, the trigger law comes with traditional criminal penalties. Pregnant women would still be exempt from charges, but doctors could face up to life in prison.
Leaders and members of the state legislature say they are refocusing their attention on investing in foster care and adoption services and strengthening the social safety net for mothers and children.
But some of the more conservative members have begun to discuss ways to make sure Texans aren't just traveling to another state to have the procedure.

“pushing for a bill to ban residents looking to end their pregnancy in another state from doing so.”
Unenforceable.
Republicans: How can we give up the moral high ground when were actually winning, for once.
Unbelievable.
I hope I am misunderstanding. Why would TX stop women who leave the state to get an abortion. That’s utterly ridiculous and communist like
There is no 6-3 conservative majority.
2 conservatives, 4 flip-floppers and 3 communists do not make a conservative court.
I’d like to know how Texas could stop pregnant women from traveling out of state to get an abortion if Roe is overturned, but I seriously doubt the headline is in any way accurate at all.
Good. Liberals will flee like cockroaches in daylight. Then bam Starbucks and weed and Texas will return to freedom.
BS I don’t believe the Texas part of this. They may have a couple of crazy or Soros plants to say this but l call fake news on that one.
It’s a mystery to me why Starbucks even exists in the first place. Even 7-11 coffee is better.
And this is exactly the way it should be. When Roe is overturned, the states will decide for themselves.
I know a woman who refused to submit to the vax needle, and claimed her body her choice, and even had a medical exemption.
Did the state govt she worked for care?
nope
I am under the impression that the majority decision, per the draft by Alito, was voted for by Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Amy, and Brett.
Having Roberts vote for it as well would be a bad thing as opposed to a good thing since he would want to water it down.
I presume that he wrote some wishy washy fence straddling concur-in-part dissent-in-part trash.
From best to worst:
1. Alito and Thomas
2. Gorsuch
3. Amy
4. Brett
5. Roberts and The Three Stooges
Preventing people from traveling interstate is clearly unconstitutional. Are we Democrats that we should behave so?
The media asks a very leading question and then gets a Republican to answer in a way that allows Dems to campaign on and the propaganda media to publicize something that the vast majority of conservativea know is outrageous. Usually not even the people they are sort of quoting meant or believe what is claimed.
It is a way of lying to the public but it works, especially with the Low information Dem voters.
As others said - if true, it could not be enforced practically or legally. Otherwise, states can make the laws they choose, as it was pre-Roe.
Hard to believe and not do-able anyway.
I agree with you Jonny7797. Just let people be themselves, tyranny is tyranny no matter what side it comes from.
Sorry you can not ban someone from leaving the state
But can you change someone that come in your state with and out of state murder?
