Mississippi's governor won't say if he will BAN contraception next as Tate Reeves confirms his state will outlaw abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned claiming 'decision making on abortion policy' should be up to the states

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves refused to say on Sunday if his state would consider legislation outlawing contraception in the future if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

Reeves confirmed to NBC's Meet the Press host Chuck Todd that Mississippi would completely ban abortion at the state level if the landmark case were overturned by the Supreme Court.

'What about contraception and birth control, particularly IUDs? I mean, is this total ban that gets put in on abortion, is that going to have an impact on women that decide to have certain types of birth control like IUD?' Todd asked the governor of the deep red state.

'I don't think that it is going to apply to those that choose to use birth control,' Reeves said, avoiding a direct answer to the question.

'I believe that clearly a life begins at conception,' he added.

Later, Todd pushed the matter: 'You've just said that you believe life begins at conception. If there is legislation brought to you to ban contraception, would you sign it?'

'Well, I don't think that's going to happen in Mississippi,' Reeves said in a continued dodge of the question. 'I'm sure they'll have those conversations in other states.'

'But you're not answering the question,' Todd pointed out.

Katelyn Caralle does a “good” job of twisting words into something that wasn’t meant.

Reeves should know that anyone from the MSM is going to try and bait him into stepping on his crank. He fell right into the trap.

Mississippi also isn’t a “deep red state” as described in the article. If we were then we wouldn’t have a communist crook like Bennie Thompson as one of our representatives. Our senators and the other representatives are RINOS too, we have no real conservatives on the national level.

“I don’t think anyone in GOP is calling for restrictions on the pill.”

If not, they’d better get out in front with the messaging or the filth of the left will.

Probably too late. Roe vs Wade is a losing issue for GOP. Should have waited until next year. But SCOTUS is not a political institution so they have to do the right thing. So be it.

Don't be surprised if Dems keep the Senate and the red wave fails to materialize in the House. All the Dems have to do is to run on the issue that the Reps will ban abortion everywhere and enough women will vote blue and that will make a difference in the election.

The economy is scrappy but it's not that bad yet. So the rats will get to change the subject and the timing is very favorable for them. Now it's no longer about Joe Biden's performance as the POTUS.

I do not understand what the moral nor scientific objection is to contraception.

As soon as a life is created, that's a different story.

RvW is lighting rod for more than a few fiscally conservatives who are also pro-choice not every fiscal conservative is also a die hard social conservative especially the urban higher education group those with PhDs and above. The Mensa members the lawyers the doctor’s those people who own businesses and hate government taxes and over regulation but could care less about the religious dogma of the far right. None of the fiscal conservatives I know are not also pro-choice not one and that number of people is in the hundreds, every moderate I know is also pro-choice the split is first trimester or second none support third trimester but ALL support at least the first trimester. If the far right moral zealots also ban contraceptives they will get shellaced for it. The very next order of business for the left will be to pack Court and they will take that to the bank. The compromise is going to be first trimester that’s where the vast majority of Americans who are not part of a right wing echo chamber are at. Stop any 18 to 40 year old on the street and tell them that they have to have a baby they don’t want not can afford, and also tell them they should have kept there legs shut or they should have kept it in their pants all high and mighty like and see how fast they vote exactly opposite to that with a voter’s energy that will stock the rigit. This is the hill to die on for younger people who don’t want kids they will show up in force in November if the GOP does something stupid like ban early term abortions and especially contraceptives that’s about the dumbest move.

We’re going to lose many more Rights due to Republican stupidity on this issue. They should simply oppose late term abortion.

Spoken like a true Dem saboteur. Only opposing "late term" abortion is pretty useless - what is "late term"? Right before/after birth? Third trimester only? That doesn't prevent much killing - most abortions are committed in the first trimester, maybe early second.

For someone who believes life is sacred, why would you not oppose killing babies during the whole pregnancy? What "Rights" do you think we're going to lose if we finally manage to save babies from being killed for convenience?

it’s the ORIGINAL Catholic opinion - any contraception is akin to pre-emptive murder and an “unnatural” usage of the act of sex.

Now I disagree with that concept and you could probably say that condoms don’t do that - but hormonal birth control?

That's not the proper reasoning for Catholic teaching. Contraceptives are not "pre-emptive murder". The purpose of sex is procreation - therefore by unnaturally preventing that, you undermine the purpose of the act, and therefore contraceptives shouldn't be used. Not something you should do, but certainly not viewed as great an evil as murder.

More specifically, the Supreme Court scandalously lied about Roe v. Wade imo, the 10th Amendment clarifying in general that the Constitution's silence about things like the murder of unborn children make it uniquely a state power issue.

The problem with that statement is that while yes, murder is a State crime, and only turns Federal in a few (not-related) circumstances, some States legally killing babies is basically the opposite the guarantees of life mentioned in the Declaration of Independence that the Constitution is supposed to safeguard. How do you secure liberty for your posterity if you're killing them off?

Every innocent little preborn baby has a right to life from conception forward.

There is no number of hours, days, weeks, or months in which it is OK to murder an innocent little preborn baby.

The motives of the media are so transparent. Abortion has become so abhorrent to many people that the only hope of the baby-killers is to attempt to tie it to contraception which remains popularly acceptable.

If you take away the pill, a lot of women will go dem. And more than a few guys.

No one is saying that the pill should be banned. However, people should be made more aware that the pill is a Group One carcinogen according to the American Cancer Society, in the same category as asbestos, neutron radiation, engine exhaust, and plutonium.
