Phil Mickelson suffered a staggering $40 million gambling loss between 2010 and 2014, according to his biographer.
Alan Shipnuck, a former golf reporter for Sports Illustrated, has a Mickelson biography entitled, “Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar,” which is coming out later this month.
In a book excerpt published on the Fire Pit Collective website, Shipnuck cites documents that were compiled when government auditors conducted a “forensic” analysis of Mickelson’s finances during the time he was embroiled in an insider trading case involving famed professional gambler Billy Walters

12 Steps,Phil....you need them.
$30 million to join the tour and recruit players. He’s got to play in 20 events and prize money totals $20 million per tournament and $5 million in team play. He’ll be covered until the next round of losses.
Rumor was he switched endorsement deals earlier in his career and the signing bonus was sent directly to bookies in Vegas.
“I wonder if he made that much peddling drugs? Hopefully Saudi Arabia can make him whole.”

He should have used that money to buy part of a casino. Only way to come out ahead.
He’s a mudder....and his mother was a mudder.
Mickelson’s agent, Steve Loy, issued the issued the following statement: “Our client Phil Mickelson is officially registered to play in the PGA Championship as well as the U.S. Open.In other words, 'approve my request, and I'll play all three tourneys.“We have also filed a request on his behalf for a release to play in the first LIV Golf Invitational in London, June 9-11. This request complies with the deadline of April 25 set forth by the PGA Tour to compete in a conflicting tour event.
“Phil currently has no concrete plans on when and where he will play. Any actions taken are in no way a reflection of a final decision made, but rather to keep all options open.”
That much in gambling losses would immediately flag the attention of every casino in Las Vegas in 2022. Today’s casinos are a lot more aware of their public perception and someone losing US$40 million in gambling could get that person denied access to a casino there.
Gambling addicts love to lose.
Although not Tiger-quality, Sergio Garcia -- always entertaining -- has committed to London today.
