Researchers in Japan have developed a new method for making 5-cm (2-in) wafers of diamond that could be used for quantum memory. The ultra-high purity of the diamond allows it to store a staggering amount of data – the equivalent of one billion Blu-Ray discs.
Diamond is one of the most promising materials for practical quantum computing systems, including memory. A particular defect in the crystal, known as a nitrogen-vacancy center, can be used to store data in the form of superconducting quantum bits (qubits), but too much nitrogen in the diamond disrupts its quantum storage capabilities.

It appears to be cheap, since it is just crystal. You might get issued a single permi-wafer since it's unlikely that you could ever fill it up.
That's probably its economic downfall.
Biden also has defective memory.
They’re probably very hard to bite down on though.
The sum of the world’s knowledge is thought to be 250 exabytes.
That’s about 250 billion gigabytes. There are 25 gb in a standard blu-ray disc. So, there are 10 billion discs worth of knowledge in the world.
You’d need about 10 of these crystals to hold the world’s knowledge.

I could see this technology coupled with a bio-interface, so individuals could tap into this.
Once they had the public sold on the benefits, and get them all tapped in, they could force propaganda downloads on everyone, or at least control the available content. Twitter on mega-steroids.
Something of a technological Tower of Babel.
It is a ZARDOS diamond. Will be taking over the world soon.
With the globalists desire for transhumanism, they want programmable humans as well.
So, coupling with their desires, I can see trying to program people for specific functions in society.
Who here figured out that the Borg were just liberals realizing their dreams?
Sorry ZARDOZ. Memory failure.
“They’re probably very hard to bite down on though.”
At least they won’t scratch like DVDs.
This is more than just storage. This could be used as memory or cache in a computing platform which would unlock the ability for a single platform to host hundreds if not thousands of servers or processes. This would be a boon for cloud or even on-premises local cloud for businesses. Entire data centers could be downsized or even consolidated. Exciting stuff.
Ironic.
You have a defective crystal. Your appointment is scheduled at 11am in two days, where you will receive a new one.
Q: “How much should a man spend on a 2” Diamond hard drive.”
A: “A good rule of thumb is that a man should spend three decades salary on a high quality 2” thick Diamond hard drive. Remember, this is a purchase that will ideally last the rest of your life.”
My first thought was along those lines also ... this makes the use of crystals to store data as seen in Superman and Star Trek movies seem plausible.
The good news: the equivalent of one billion Blu-Ray discs.
The bad news: each disk takes 387 billion man years to format before first use.
A 2-hour movie in 4K definition is 28GB, so that already overflows BluRay DVD capacity.

Consider how many GB a 3D virtual reality environment will need.
What’s your job?
I was hired to format a crystal.
Cool, who was hired to format Crystal?
Would one look good mounted on my wife's ring finger (for an anniversary present)...and how much do they cost?
“appears to be cheap, since it is just crystal. You might get issued a single permi-wafer since it’s unlikely that you could ever fill it up”
That’s exactly what I said about my 20 mb hard drive in 1988!
