reading this, acknowledging the wonder of McDonald’s fries existing that long, begs the ponderance:
“what has been in those fries to preserve them so, and is that same stuff in the fries I ate yesterday?”

“...and forgot to dispose of them before closing up a wall.”
Sounds like the worker disposed of them the way he thought was correct.

Many junkfoods last forever without decomposing and won’t be touched by insects and scavengers — twinkies, cold cereal, fast food, etc.

Mold, fungus, ants or cockroaches wouldn't touch it for over half a century.

Only thing of interest I’ve found in reno walls was about 4,000 ‘safety’ razor blades - those old metal bathroom medicine cabinet have slots for dropping blades into the wall space.

Probably one of the original locations set up by Ray Kroc....a few of us were just talking about the movie, The Founder, the othe day, on another thread.

A little bit unrelated but back in the early 1990s when working as a summer student, I helped out a local building contractor who had a contract with one of the local school boards to do renovation work in the gyms and elsewhere. This fellow had in his office an old six pack of empty small bottles of Canada Dry Ginger Ale, complete with the paper package that the distinctive looking bottles came in.
Apparently, he was working at a school about a year or so earlier when he had to go into a storage room that wasn’t used terribly often and off in a corner was this six pack of empty bottles. He figured in a time no later than about 1969 or 1970, someone probably put the bottles there (when you could bring empty pop bottles for refunds) and forgot about them until they were finally discovered years later.

McDonald’s used to be “fast food”. Now it’s just “food”...sort of...eventually.
