Deep diving into the Hummer EV; a vehicle I’m not sure I’ve ever had such conflicting thoughts about. On one hand, it’s a brilliant vehicle, wildly capable off-road, and genuinely feels like it has the ability to embarrass both the Ford Raptor and Ram TRX in any scenario, but on the other hand, it appeared on the cover of Time Magazine with a quote about “engineering a greener future.”
There are three 250 kW electric motors, which combined give you 1,000 horsepower and 1200 lb-ft of torque. So despite weighing over 9,000 lbs, GM claims it’ll reach 60 miles per hour in just 3 seconds. Now, allowing those three electric motors to provide an absurd launch is a massive battery pack; at over 2900 lbs, the battery pack alone weighs more than an entire Subaru BRZ. This battery has 205 kWh of energy available to use.
It’s not a gimmick, it’s really quick, and it’s really capable off-road. Plain and simple, it’s very impressive to drive. But it also feels like a colossal waste of resources, and considering it weighs nearly as much as all three of cars that I own combined, I sincerely hope I never meet one in a collision. But I like it. I mean, I do. Dang. Watch the video for all the details.I Hate That I Love The Hummer EV | April 15, 2022 | Engineering Explained

“Enjoy the mortgage payment that comes with it.”
If it has a toilet and water works, like a small sailboat, it would (maybe) qualify for a home mortgage.
TBH a friend of mine took his car to the shop and the loaner was a Hummer, he let me drive it and I have to admit that sucker had a lot of blind spots.
Simple solution to that: put the passenger in the gun turret in the back, with headphones, to guide you in perpendicular back-up parking. Heh.
Already had a recall. GM makes garbage.
9000 lbs?
“Well, Hummers are based on warfare”
Not to mention, Kamala’s greatest asset.
lmao
We can all just start raising whales.... problem solved.
I suspect “off road” for most of these vehicles will be mall parking lots.
The way that government has misused funds targeted for highways, all roads are now considered "off road".
LOL! Good point!
I agree, as someone who has Rotopax mounts on both my vehicles and has had them save my bacon. I can see someone out in the bush with a trickle solar charger camping for a week to have enough to drive out.
This might be good for occasional trail users who don’t cruise far from home. Most of the guys I wheel with are within an hour drive of their house and don’t carry extra gas.
The other problem is it’s weight. A lot of the time power does not help you if you’re too heavy. The ‘most capable’ offroaders are usually light. Depends on what sort of wheeling you do though.
All these new EV’s are equipped with tracking devises.
Whoop...Devices too!
