A Louisiana mother and grandmother were charged with murder on Friday after they forced a four-year-old girl to drink half a bottle of whiskey, as punishment for taking a sip.
Roxanne Record, 53, and her daughter Kadjah Record, 28, were each booked into the East Baton Rouge parish prison following the death of Kadjah's daughter China from acute alcohol poisoning.
The little girl had a blood alcohol level of .068 more than eight times the .08 legal limit for people over 21 to drive when she died.
Police were called to the home in the Windsor Place area of Baton Rouge on Thursday morning, to reports of an unresponsive child.
On arriving at the home, on Wallis Street and Harco Drive, they were told by China's siblings that the grandmother was angry because the little girl had taken a sip of the Canadian Mist whiskey, left on the counter.
As a punishment, the child was told to kneel on the floor and finish off the remaining half of the bottle.
Kadjah Record watched as her daughter was forced to drink the liquor, which gave her a blood alcohol content of .680.
Drivers in the state of Louisiana are considered legally drunk when their BAC is .08 or more.

I can’t imagine forcing a child to drink half a bottle of Whiskey. If they thought it would teach her a lesson, another sip would have suffice. This was out and out cruelty unless they are extremely low IQ.

I think a lot of people don’t realize how alcohol is poison. (And I drink a half bottle of wine nightly). My dad told me a story of a guy he knew who when younger who sat at a bar and quietly just drank and drank and drank and then. . .simply died. Also the danger of “21 shots on the 21st birthday”—I think that happens.
There are health classes in high schools—the danger of death from drinking should be taught.
The names give it away. They won’t serve much time.
Even if the child had survived, she would have probably been messed up permanently.
In college we had a fire alarm and had to evacuate the building. One fellow was so drunk he had to be carried out. He did eventually wake up and of course remembered nothing.
Also NO FATHER in the house.
First degree murder implies intent to kill. The prosecutors better hope there’s a paper trail or a life insurance policy out on the child or this pair might be acquitted. Second degree or involuntary manslaughter would seem more appropriate.

My daughter took a sip at about that age and that was all she needed to know not to do it again.
She probably grabbed one of the adult’s drinks. It happens. What doesn’t usually happen is the adults in question making the child drink a lethal dose.

Ignorance is not always bliss
It might be a state where the jury can downgrade the charge if voting to convict. Some states allow that.
This is totally despicable. Both of them should burn in hell for what they put that child through.
