magic beans?
I think a liquid electrolyte is a non-starter.
We are constantly hearing about “breakthroughs” and “potentials” with regard to batteries, but very few make it into mass production because most are not feasible financially or physically.
That magic word “Could” = not a chance
The materials for this battery are able to be extracted from seawater, laying the groundwork for less invasive sourcing techniques than current material mining methods.
It's the Brawndo battery!
Plants love it!
Seriously though, this sounds great!!
So, it should be available commercially extremely fast, because the profit potential is fantastic.
I, for one, will not be holding my breath.
I hope they make it happen, but the claims are extreme.
To move this new battery from early stage exploratory research into commercial development, IBM Research has joined with Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America, Central Glass, one of the top battery electrolyte suppliers in the world, and Sidus, a battery manufacturer, to create a new next-generation battery development ecosystem. While plans for the larger development of this battery are still in the exploratory phase, our hope is that this budding ecosystem will help to bring these batteries into reality. So, it appears they do not even have a working laboratory prototype, yet.
Until there is a safe, reliable battery with a range of 400 miles that can be recharged in less than ten minutes ,most people will not want EVs. Sorry but the laws of physics are not in favor of EVs.
Article is over 2 years old. Nothing to see here, folks.
Tomorrow is Earph Day.
We must do all we can to save her...
Insert Coke tune here.
It will be great. if they can mass market this. The fact that it uses fairly common materials is a boon.
Not that I’m buying the lies about hydrocarbons.
If it sounds too good to be true....
This is terrible. We NEED heavy metals.

No heavy metal? So, it’s the Muzak battery.
Big claims, but no specifics. What are the specific energy and the energy density numbers?
“We did chemistry and a computer simulation” ... As written by a ethnocentric woke college over-educated press release.
Don't get me wrong! This may work.
But I see no “measured outputs over time, no test results, no weights nor density of the power (watts/lb or watts per volume nor watts per dollar) - EVERY ONE OF IS CRITICAL.
Progress always sounds good until that one word pops up COULD.
Anyone hear the sound of Tesla stock going up? Elon's a happy camper...
