Here’s why food shortages are unlikely to occur in the U.S.
CNBC ^ | APR 20 2022 | Nathaniel Lee

Meanwhile, food prices in the U.S. are rising at historic rates, while prices for commodities like wheat and corn are at their highest levels in a decade. What’s more, the U.S. Department of Agriculture predicts that food-at-home prices will see an increase of up to 4% by the end of 2022.

“It’s particularly severe because we are just coming out of a recovery from a two-and-a-half-year pandemic that had severe implications on the prices of goods and services as well as the price of commodities,” according to Johanna Mendelson-Forman, adjunct professor at the American University in the School of International Service.

Despite the prospect of continued rising prices, however, experts don’t expect food shortages to occur in the United States.

“It’s important to realize that the U.S. doesn’t import very much from Ukraine,” explained Joseph Glauber, a senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute.

“We may see some shelves that are empty for various kinds of food products like we have for a while now as we recover from the pandemic,” said Scott Irwin, chair of agricultural marketing at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. “But I can say with some real confidence that in the United States, the average consumer is not going to see a shortage of bread because of what’s going on in Ukraine.”

We grew up similarly. You are correct, I have not gone long without food. I am prepared for catastrophe, whether natural or otherwise. Do you remember FR and Jade Helm? The virus under Zero and the fear of lockdowns and lack of food? My garage is still full of prep food, I can’t give the crap away. We were being ‘killed’ then and look at us, living. My personal philosophy is be prepared and relax. Stress is the number one cause of disease and death, it also harms the immune system. Trust me, there won’t be soup and bread lines. What there will be is msm pushing fear and scarcity. Possibly a great inconvenience to us, but no starvation.

Imagine millions of “climate refugees” (that’s how the media will describe them) trying to get into the US.

I've heard it called water glassing, too.

Sodium silicate or pickling lime.

In the backyard are these critters yelling Baaaaak Baaak Bi-Quirck! all the time...
We are good to go...

Just have to be smarter than the stupid frogs in the city... Let the city folks eat each other. It is a win win for logical folk...

Isn’t that a great concept? To keep eggs for two years without refrigeration? My wife and I have been digging into the depression methods. Been baking “Depression cakes” for about a year now. Fanfriggentstic considering there is no Eggs or Milk in these cakes. Baking soda and vinegar instead, and they rise and taste great, Lemon, Orange, Vanilla, or Chocolate depression cake! Man... Good stuff!!!

:)

Our daughter wants us to move closer to the city for the grandkids. Not happening. We don’t mind making the drive since we retired.

Do you really think that we’ll see people starving in the streets in the US?

Most of them will be quietly starving in their homes and apartments.

The ones that get more active out of doors will be silenced quickly.

The Presidents' press secretary will absolutely deny that there were any food riots in January 2023. And the "unfounded rumors of troublesome incidents" will all be blamed on Donald Trump and his supporters who are hoarding supplies that should be "equitably redistributed".

Yes, I really believe that things can get that bad.

Yep. We got rings and jars. I keep picking up lids. Near twice as hi as last year, around here.

The professor should get out of the faculty lounge and actually go to a grocery store. The avian flu has caused ma ny farmers to liquidate their egg laying chickens pushing up egg prices to nearly $3/dozen. Further avian flu outbreaks could easily lead to empty shelves in the dairy department. Chicken will also become scarce for the same reason. Biden’s soon to hit double digit inflation and his war on fossil fuels especially diesel will it only raise food prices, but drop food production as well. Way to go Brandon.

Good on you... Because when the SHTF they will still have a safe place to go... That is exactly the situation we are in also, 11 of those GK’s. Kids are working in the city, But they know where to come and how to camp out here if they have to...

They were raised here and know the rural game very well. They just had to try the “American dream” with education and good jobs and “toys”. Doing extremely well, but just relayed yesterday they are a bit worried now.

Well that is easy... Just come home and help muck out stalls and we will get by... Been there three times already... Carter, Clinton, Obama, and now Biden. Getting to be old hands at this as long as they do not outlaw “Life and basic Survival” altogether... :)

THAT is where the line will be drawn...

He also promised a winter of pandemic sickeness and death for the unjabbed.

He was wrong.

I just watched a video about egg preservation with lime (pickling kind, but purchased in larger quantities at hardware store) in water. Presenter said that eggs might keep up to 8 months. Have you used this method before?

I don’t have chickens.

Maybe a few of those Biden “I did that” stickers should wind up on those shelf facings.

We see things similar. My wife and I love rural living and the grandkids love visiting. In the summer they often forget phones and video games (after a few days). If the world doesn’t collapse we are good and if the SHTF all our kids have a place to come home to. It’s a win/win.

Egg glassing is Sodium silicate

I tried that years ago and it was a stinking failure.
The eggs continued their biological process, all the way into decomposition.

I would not invest too much into this.
