A man was killed inside a Southern California(Escondido) car wash after he got out of his vehicle and got pinned against machinery, authorities said Monday.
The fatal accident unfolded late Friday at a self-service car wash in the 2100 block of East Valley Parkway in Escondido, which is about 35 miles north of downtown San Diego and 110 miles south of central Los Angeles, police said.
That's where the unidentified man, 56, became "trapped between a 2014 Scion XB and a part of the car wash machinery," according to a police statement.
"The preliminary investigation indicated that the man drove into the car wash and for an unknown reason, tried to exit his vehicle," the statement continued.
The car lurched forward and left, pinning the man to a column that houses one of the large rolling brushes when it's not in use, Lt. Scott Walters told NBC News.
The accident caused an alarm to sound, drawing the attention of another nearby customer, who called police, he said.
Officers managed to pull the man out and he was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to officials.
A representative for the car wash could not be reached for comment, but police said “it does not appear the car wash had been activated at the time of the co
I bet he was vaccinated. The real cause.
😆🤣😂🤪 Just kidding.
Final Destination (2009).
No, I never actually watched the movie.
Please pass the Eye Bleach!
Sounds like he won’t have an A-1 Day.
Oh great. Now thanks to this idiot there will be Federal Safety Regulations to deal with because apparently any time one person dies through stupidity the US congress or OSHA or some such alphabet agency has to react and make up more stupid rules. The rules will achieve nothing. Always remember:
There is no such thing as Idiot-Proof. There is only Idiot-Resistant. The ingenuity of idiots knows no bounds.
Ahh..Much better! She can suds my bumpers any old day.
It does not appear that one other person here read the story.
“police said “it does not appear the car wash had been activated at the time of the collision.””
It sounds like the guy left his car running in gear, and the car moved.... Crushing him.
I have. It was on a Saturday. I had time for a movie. The outdoor temperature in Rancho San Diego was +116F. The theater had air conditioning. The house where I was staying did not. It was in 3D. Why not? It wasn't good enough to watch the sequels.
“...and for an unknown reason, tried to exit his vehicle...”
I’m guessing there was a wasp in the car. I’d exit a vehicle traveling at warp speed to avoid a wasp! ;)
Hey, Colombo! Look for wasp stings all over the body!
Makes me think of “The Shining” novel (not the film) in which the hotel caretaker (Jack) is almost killed while working on the roof because he’s attacked by a wasp. Stephen King takes a little detour to point out that there are many fatal accidents with no explanation. He depicts a scene in which a car swerves from the road and hits a tree. The investigating officer opens the car door and a bee comes out, but the officer doesn’t notice. I think the idea was that the passenger was allergic and panicked.
I’m claustrophobic. I thought I would be okay and it would go quickly, but having the windows shut and tsunami coming at me, I wanted to jump and run, but I closed my eyes and thought of something else. I made it. My husband now drives thru alone.
The father
The offspring?
I used to react to wasps like that in my youth. Now I can actually stay in a room with a wasp while I or someone else kills it Notice I say “a wasp” not wasps, as in more than one.
“Cool Hand Luke”?
Just a guess.
Don’t you be looking at my Lucille!
An associates wife drove her husbands big 4 wheel drive truck to the new touch free car wash. “No big 4 wheel drive vehicles allowed” was written on the sign.
She drove in anyway and the machine started. After a bit it was getting hung up on the cab and other parts of the truck. She placed the shift in Drive and drove out of the car wash.
The damage to the wash was over $100,000.00.
Not including the damage to the truck!
We had great times ribbing him about the issue!
Hey Joe, how does that car wash over on Central work?
Lol!!!
