“sending” better mean “selling”

Ukraine is open to a ceasefire.

Russia, or rather Putin is not open to a ceasefire

Helping Ukraine fight off Putin means the USA keeps threats away from its own borders and also keepe its markets safe.

What rot.

Concessions? Putin wants a compliant, demilitarized Ukraine that he can slice off piece by piece.

Ukraine has consistently said to the aggressor, Russia “leave our territory” and russia refuses.

Rearming NATO?? Weren’t you among those complaining that other NATO countries were not paying their 2%

Russian aggression has prompted this ramp up in defence.

Russia committed the majority of its deployable forces in the first wave the rest in the second wave.

It has no reserves.

It has been trying to get guys who retired in 2012 to come back and trying to get mercenaries from central Africa and Syria.

Russian military comprises largely of forces to keep internal dissension down. Plus they have a large border to defend.

The Russians have already treated this as total war, with their economy destroyed to focus on the invasion.

The Russian air force, navy, tanks etc look good on paper but the vast majority of craft are mothballed. The remainder are poorly maintained if at all

“Plus they have a large border to defend.”

Russians don’t seem to care at all about the supposed threat to the border. They’re pulling troops from everywhere and sending them to Ukraine and don’t have a worry in the world.

Clearly shows that all their talk about being afraid of NATO invasion has always been a lie.

It bothers me that we seem to be advertising the weapons transfers and even detailing them. W shoul not be doing that. We should just send what we send and say nothing, unless, of course, the goal is to provoke a direct USA-Russia war.

Yes, precisely so. The market for European rearmanent is vastly greater than that for just arming Ukraine.

When all of Europe’s military budgets increase to 2 or even 3% of GDP (just for catch-up), we are talking of hundreds of billions in armaments. 10-20 billion for Ukraine is nothing in comparison.

Most of the arms being sent arent American, they are from all over Europe. This is truly a collective policy, not US driven or even led.

But they arent calling up their principal manpower pool, those conscript reservists of the last 5-10 classes. It would take time to do that, but its only with those guys that they can hope to steamroller the Ukrainians.

I would suggest reading about the 1850s crimean war by Orlando Figes. It explains why in 2022 Russia was held back by Ukraine.

In the 1700s and 1800s the Russian army was huge. But their normal choice of enemy was the khanates in the south and east. The Russians were a bit more advanced. But when the Russians met a western foe, they lost.

The same here today.

This is partly Ukrainians playing smart, partly Ukrainians playing on their home turf but mainly a case of severe Russian incompetence
