(The Rockford Files)

Tune into a hit FM radio station in the 1970s and the theme song would come on.

Good times back then.

And while Garner’s career spanned multiple decades on both the big and little screen, it was The Rockford Files where he shined...

Loved that show and have the first two seasons on DVD.

A&E’s best times were back in the ‘90s when it aired Rockford daily, along with other 1970s mystery shows Banacek, McMillan and Wife, McCloud, Columbo, Delvecchio, City of Angels, and O’Hare US Treasury.

I’m remembering the instrumental theme song.

Yup, excellent. I even notice that 50 years later, it’s cool to dress like him.

Did ya ever see the episode where Tom Selleck got his start on TV? Very humorous. It turns out I won a radio call-in contest by knowing that little tidbit. Got to treat my wife to a date.

Nice post - big James Garner fan.

Will watch Rockford File episodes over and over. Had a huge crush on his attorney "Beth".

We might all be part of Rockford’s Files, but it is getting harder to find those Pontiac Firebirds, and in a few years they will all be EVs.

The Rockford Files was created by Roy Huggins, who also created Maverick. Many of the plots for Rockford were recycled from old Maverick scripts.

I was born in 1951, so James Garner was and will always be Bret Maverick on the 1957-1962 TV show. I never saw a single episode of Rockford Files!

There were so many great westerns on in the late 50s and early 60s: Sugarfoot, Cheyenne, Maverick, Rawhide, Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, Bat Masterson, Tales of Wells Fargo, Tombstone Territory, Wanted: Dead or Alive (with McQueen’s “Mare’s Leg”), The Rifleman.

Sigh, back when TV celebrated America, celebrated white men, didn’t fill the airwaves with LGBTABCXYZ crapola and try to subvert our kids.

I’m all hopped up on Rockford right now. Been watching an episode per day for about a month. He was a really devoted lib but I bet he’d turn over in his grave if he knew what the dem party was like now.

Gas was a lot cheaper in the 70s as well.

Stuart Margolin, aka “Angel”, was a far more talented character then his character would imply.

He was also a songwriter collaborating with Jerry Riopelle, whose band was a regional hit in Phoenix and Los Angeles. Many of Riopelle’s most popular songs were co-written with Margolin, and he played percussion with them as well.

Rockford’s America is a memory now.

One of the best writers rooms ever. Stephen J Cannell, Juanita Bartlett and David Chase.

I don’t think there’s ever really been a time we weren’t living in Rockford Files world. That was kind of the point of the show. Gritty realism, no flash.

The entire Rockford Files series is streamed on Peacock at no charge. I've been watching an episode here and there for the last few months. Still on season 2.

One of things I like is to see how much cars have changed since the 70's.

Always nice to see an Okie make it big. By the way, check out Rockford's license plate some time.

The Rockford Files/First episode date
March 27, 1974.

I had got hooked on Maverick in college, and my wife liked the reruns.

So we and our sons had our fresh popped popcorn and settled down to watch the first episode.

We had been in California for about 5 years ago and could relate to where the show was supposed to be in S. California.

In a short time pizza was added to the popcorn. Our 2 sons could invite one friend.

Great shows and zero liberal ulterior B$ or CRT B$ posing as part of the shows.

Yes a great theme song as well.

You can’t tell me the current actors are worth squat compared to the endless list of past greats.

J Wayne, J Stewart, R Mitchum, K Douglas, Bogart, B Lancaster, Eastwood, Garner, G Hackman, S Connery, R Burton, it’s really endless.
