3.11 was better....
I really wish I could run Win95 or Win98 on my laptop. It would make it much faster.
The fastest computers I saw were Win98 machines that were running Win95.
I have a 3.11 VM around here somewhere.
I miss Sound Recorder. I used to put in a CD, record sections of a song, save (as a .wav, I think), and use them for certain “events” in the system. Soooo easy.
Loaded with Windows 3.1 and DOS 5.0 I believe. I then bought copies of WordPerfect 5.1 and Quattro Pro 4.0. Several hundred dollars each. Which was a lot of money at the time. Both programs came with thick manuals that could fill a bookshelf - and that I never read.

It was an “operating environment” not a true operating system”.
At the time, msdos was a cleaner platform.
“Windows 3.1 ... you’ll believe your 386 will fly like a 286 running DOS.” — old truism
I still have the windows 3.1 floppy disks around her someplace , wonder if they melted ,LOL
XL wasn’t the Killer Ap?
Leisure Suit Larry arrived.
Poor Macintosh imitation.
95 became a better imitation.
I remember Windows 3.1.
Is this when the flying toasters came out?
I had a version of windows 1.0 that came packaged with Pagemaker. I used it to layout a newslatter. The screens would a some point just turn black until the new version came out.
I recollect what really made it a success was an aggregated commitment at first release from various hardware vendors to include Windows 3.1 on 100m computers in the near future (a year?).
We all know Msquish had to fight legions of bugs with every first release of almost every product. (That was less the case for Flight Simulator.)
I remember trying to add a sound card to my computer. It was a nightmare with the slots and IRQs and the configuring. It was not plug and play.
OS/2 was a better program loader - which was all that Windows 3 was.
I’ll bet DOS 6.1 would run very fast on my current computer.
