Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia and will be stepping away from his decades-long career, his family announced Wednesday.
Aphasia is a medical condition that can affect a person’s ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written, according to the Mayo Clinic. It typically occurs after a stroke or a head injury.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” the 67-year-old’s family wrote in a statement shared to each of their Instagram accounts, adding that he will be “stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” the family continued. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.

This is sad news. I really like him. I'm an actor and was lucky enough to work with him on one of his Die Hard movies. I was able to watch him work on the set. He knew it's just a movie and liked to have fun. He would mess with the actors on the set, even the extras. He didn't make fun of them, but he would talk to them, not all the time, but he would. When the police would stop by the set when we were on location, he never turned them down for a photo op. As an actor, he would make you fell comfortable.

Geez and by my standard he’s not that old.

That’s too bad. My late father had aphasia as a symptom of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Sad. Quite possibly from physical trauma to the head from his earlier acting days.

As long as he can still pull a trigger his acting career shouldn’t suffer.

I’m very sorry to hear this.
Recently he seems to have been in a bad place, not enjoying film-making any more. And now this.
(And yes, I suppose it could be some Vax thing. Everybody who has a setback from now on - always have it in the back of my mind)

To: Tax-chick
It may also be from a stroke or series of TIA.

What is it the in thing in Hollywood to have diseases that start with an A?
Before a few days ago never heard of alopecia and now aphasia.

To: Tax-chick
Relative for whom I cared became aphasic after suffering psychological trauma. No speech for probably ten years. On her death bed, she struggled to speak, but could not. Very sad for her and me.

A cognative disorder like this can be a side effect of a prescription drug or a symptom of some other disease, such as a chronic infection.
My first step would be to discontinue all drugs.
