In a truly shocking moment, Will Smith just smacked Chris Rock in the face after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith at The Oscars.
Chris was up on stage Sunday presenting for Best Documentary, but before he started naming the nominees ... he was firing off zingers to the crowd, and eventually landed on Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Chris made a comment about Jada's shaved head ... saying he couldn't wait to see 'G.I. Jane 2' -- which got some groans from the crowd, to which he just sorta shrugged off.
Chris didn't think he'd crossed a line, but Will clearly did ... because he stormed the stage and literally socked the dude in the face. A stunned Rock exclaimed, "Wow. Will Smith just smacked the #### outta me."
The American broadcast on ABC muted, and even froze, but in other countries it continued ... and Will shouted "Keep my wife's name out your #### mouth" twice to Chris.
Chris eventually gained his composure again and carried on with handing out the Oscar, but the room was left tense with a sense of unease.

It was not fake but freepers gotta do what they do
I saw it one am on German English network and thought it was years ago and I’d missed it
I never watch that shit
My rib often does to check fashion
I texted my buddy out there in Los Felis who’s a producer and he immediately replied it’s real and the topic of conversation obviously
My first reactions
It was on Munich English Channel feed on YouTube late at one
I thought it was years ago
Too funny
I’m ambivalent
It feeds black stereotypes which have been my experience the half dozen times I’ve fought them
Emotional
Cry
Sucker punch
Rash
The usual
Rock handled it very cool it was a big slap
Smith who knows the whole history I sure don’t but he obviously has a temper and a highly rumored private life
I like Denzel comment how the devil lurks at your highest moment
And someone said rock lucky it wasn’t Tupac he would have shot rock
Man how would Rickles have survived this environment
Very bizarre and when nobody is listening white liberals out there are thinking
Well it’s black people
Tell that to Harvey. And the jury is still out on Alec.
Rock is lucky it wasn’t Alec Baldwin.
Seems to me Steve Harvey’s done just fine. He handled it pretty well actually.
All joking aside it usually is best to hold one’s temper
When I’ve struck men even when justified unless in defense
There’s an ugliness to it I usually regret
Does that make sense to anyone
LOL, not that Harvey...Weinstein is currently housed at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, where he is awaiting his trial on 11 other rape and sexual assault charges. That trial is not expected to begin until next summer, at the earliest.
Best was when the streaker went on stagecwhile David Niven was presenting an award. Second best was when Rex Harrison presented Oscars to Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn and said. “To all my fair ladies.” Class total class.
I think the plan was for Weinstein to be tit-for-tat for getting Trump out, it backfired.
Is that Caitlyn Jenner doin' the slappin'?
Unless, as you said, it's self-defense, hitting someone shows a wounded ego and lack of self-confidence, that someone else's opinion even matters that much. "Consider the source."
The best revenge is served cold.
I’m not even sure revenge except in violence inflicted upon those close to you is worth it honestly
I’ve been in a situation whereby I could have used mortal revenge over the theft of a very large mid six figures theft of money
I chose not to execute the person....on a ranch he being sequestered in Paraguay by me and my assistants
I declined as he begged and pissed himself
I was not raised to murder
Any man can kill if pushed ....especially a scared man or woman
Smith I think....there’s more going on here
This doesn’t matter to my interest in this thread. The dustup was about her hair.
She could also be enormously overweight, which many people are (including some Freepers!) and can’t always help. Should a crack about one’s weight or other health condition be conflated with their sex life, too?
President Trump has been an adulterer and married three times. Whenever that’s been mentioned, people have said that they ‘didn’t vote for a saint’.
Actors are actors. With few exceptions, they’ve never been the most sterling or admirable characters. If you knew everything about every actor you’ve enjoyed, you might never see a movie again.
I just don’t like people being made fun of over something they can’t help.
From what I read today, Rock didn’t use that joke in the rehearsal.
It might be very humiliating to a woman to lose her hair - or to a husband who has watched her go through that. (There are plenty of married people who have chosen to go their own ways while remaining married for various reasons. I may not approve of every case or in publicizing it; but in many instances they still retain a lot of affection for one another.)
She’s talked about her hair loss publicly for a long time. I’m sure most women would find it as devastating as she did.
To her credit, most women would probably wear a wig; but she just owns it.
And you’re correct - it was tacky and not funny.
If she is humiliated by a medical condition that could be covered up, but not adultery perhaps she should reconsider her priorities, both here and the thereafter. I will also point out she led another person to commit adultery so it isn’t just between her and her husband. It also impacts both hers, and the other person’s children as well.
Chris Rock didn’t make a joke about the ‘open marriage’- and I thought that the thread was about the joke he did make, and the slap.
Rock made a stupid, thoughtless joke about something that can’t be helped. (He claims that he didn’t know about the alopecia - but for all he knew, she could have been going through chemo. Would you find the joke to have been appropriate then?)
And why should she go through the discomfort of ‘covering it up’? One of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen was a tall, bald, Black woman crossing a street in DC with her infant in her arms. I don’t know why she was bald, but baldness or extremely short hair is a ‘style’ among some women (including fashion models) and has been for a long time.
Why don’t you start a thread expounding upon your feelings about the Smiths’ open marriage? I’m sure you have a lot of good arguments to present as to its effects on society, children, etc. - and it would be very popular.
My take was the event could be boiled down to a reaction to a perceived insult. It looked like Mr. Smith laughed until she gave him a look. So it is really about her reaction. In my opinion she over reacted, and pushed her husband to react. My take was her reaction and pushing her husband to react was unwarranted and I explained why.
Feel free to comment all you want, but don’t try to be the thread police.
I have no power to ‘police’ you.
But I will respond to you when I feel like it.
Very true
