Monroe Doctrine: What if U.S. faced what Russia has?
WND ^ | 03/21/2022 | Scott Lively

In 1823, when the emperor of Tzarist Russia invited the United States to negotiate a resolution of contested coastal lands along the northwest of the North American continent, President James Monroe responded with a proclamation in an address to Congress that would forever-after be called the Monroe Doctrine. In his own words, he said that when "the rights and interests of the United States are involved … the American continents … are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers. … We owe it, therefore, to candor and to the amicable relations existing between the United States and those powers to declare that we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety."

Our official government summary of the Monroe Doctrine adds that "the doctrine warns European nations that the United States would not tolerate further colonization or puppet monarchs. … [emphasis mine]

"[I]n 1904, European creditors of a number of Latin American countries threatened armed intervention to collect debts. I would be against attacking Mexico for stationing Chinese (or Russian) bases and weapons, particularly nuclear.

I would DEMAND that the US tolerate the buildup on our border and NOT DO ANYTHING until we were physically attacked or invaded.

I make that demand because I am an idealist and it is NEVER justified to be the first side to use force against a neighboring country. NEVER!!!!

“NEVER!!!!”

Not even when a foreign state sponsors drug importation, human trafficking, cross border gangs, human invasion and relies on their citizens to repatriate funds from the USA as part of their GDP?

Depending on how you interpret events, the Monroe Doctrine died Oct 1962. Khrushchev traded his Cuban missiles for our missiles close to the USSR. Cuban sovereignty as a communist nation was guaranteed from US interference. Nikita is portrayed as the one who blinked, but he achieved his objectives.

Doesn’t matter. Since I’m an idealist, it is NEVER permitted to invade a neighboring country, regardless of what they’re doing or threaten to do.

If Russia wasn’t led by a recalcitrant Soviet dictator I’d care. Until Russia stops being a threat to its neighbors it needs to be contained or defeated.
