Putin may be losing the information war, but Zelensky's NATO concession suggests Ukraine may be losing on the battlefield. The West must not fool itself into thinking otherwise, writes military expert BILL ROGGIO

As Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine grinds on into its fourth week, the physical war rages in the cities and countryside, while an information war is waged over the airwaves and on the internet and social media.

On the actual battlefield, the Russian offensive has undoubtedly slowed over the past week. But what is being described as a 'stalled' takeover may be the result of the Russians taking time to reorganize their forces and improve their logistics.

On the Western side of the information war, we were told from the opening days of the conflict that the Russian military would break due to high casualties and defections, loss of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery and aircraft, and domestic opposition.

Videos of Russian battlefield setbacks abound in the media, and strangely there is little reporting on Ukrainian losses.

And yet, over three weeks into the war, Vladimir Putin remains president and the Russian war machine has not collapsed but in fact continues its plodding, imperfect, and messy advance.

Ukraine certainly has won the war on social media and in the press. This gives the average Western viewer the impression of a lopsided victory in favor of Ukraine.

Additionally, the Pentagon has taken the unprecedented step of conducting daily briefings on the war, even though the U.S. is not at war.

The Pentagon assessments often track closely with assessments given by the Ukrainian government.

This is not a condemnation of the West's use of information and disinformation.

These tactics play a role in the management of conflicts. But the West should not delude itself into believing that the Ukrainians will be saved by wishful thinking.

My brother and I got into fights when we were kids. We were barely more than a year apart in age. This lead to a lot of conflict and competition.

He was stronger and bigger than I. When we fought, I would refuse to give up. But I would call “time out.” Just to catch my breath. Then I would go back into fighting mode.

This lead to me getting my ass kicked almost every time until puberty.

But, my calls for a time out would allow me to drag the fight out until my brother got bored with wrestling me and he moved on to something else.

I think Zelensky is trying to negotiate in order to catch his breath and allow more weapons to get to his troops.

I was trying to explain to my daughter the other day how this was going to end. I told her it was like a baseball game where Russia was “supposed” to win 10-0. They will win 10-6 or 10-8. But, Russia will win.

Biden is not really on Ukraine’s side. I believe he/his handlers were very upset on Day 2 when Zelensky turned down the evacuation offer. That was not supposed to happen. They did not want a fired-up Ukraine mounting more than a “Resistance Symbolique”.

Which has little to do with Russia, but will get worse. Layoffs and wage cuts are coming soon

Right - I meant it as a response to the “meanwhile at home.. don’t look at what’s going on here, support Ukraine and Democracy which means Democrats!” quip.

“I just paid $8 for an egg mcmuffin, hash brown cake and large coffee.”

Isn’t that about the cost of a Starbucks coffee loaded with enough sweets to hide the horrible taste? Doesn’t sound like that bad a deal.

At this point I’ve no idea what to do. Should have never locked down, printed money and forced non essentials to go home, isolate and gain a drug habit.

The”adults’ needed this war to keep Americans off the horrors at home. Inflation is going to crush most of us.

Agreed. There’s a startlingly lack of understanding of human psychology here by our “top men” in the west.

Or, more concerning, they understand the psychology all too well and this is intentional, like with the “science” of COVID and this is all more herd guidance...

Here, don’t watch Biden’s war on America, watch this war way over there between two idiots!

I’m amazed to hear the Daily Mail print anybody who says this. They’ve been pushing the Neocon/Deep state line all day every day thus far.

Where Zelensky won is I think Putin has given up on the idea of installing a puppet in Kiev to run things. He was counting on a quick invasion with the Ukrainian army cutting and running and an ultimate surrender. He didn’t get that and the last thing he wants to do is go into Kiev and put up with 10 years of insurgency. So, he will settle with encircling it until he gets the other things he wants. This is a slow moving ass kicking where he will get most of everything he wants including neutrality, no NATO membership, recognition of breakaway republics and Crimea as his but not a fast moving ass kicking where he will get the big enchilada of taking over the country with a puppet in control in Kiev. He will have to live with Zelensky until his hitman turns him orange like the other guy in 2014.

I’m not arguing with the many other discouraging points you make regarding Biden, Iran, etc. it’s not an encouraging outlook.

Arguably there are no winners here. But I am not going to try to read Zelensky’s mind. I’m just watching the actions of both sides. Zelensky could hav3 cut and run long ago. I think Biden even encouraged that option (loser that he is). It’s been a slow grind for Ukraine, and Russia has a lot of arrows in its quiver, but each day costs the Russians more armor, more conscripts. At some point they may have to question what they will gain from scorched earth of Ukraine cities and civilians and whether or not that’s worth the cost.

Putin is consolidating power, while making a great many enemies, inside and outside. The images of the destruction in Ukraine are nothing short of what can be found in the footage from WWII and the devastation in Europe. He will go down in history in the same manner as Hitler, Mao, and other despots.

assets are king - keep cash reserves but hold them in stocks with good companies that will outlast this and thus will give you a hedge against inflation (stocks/assets will tend to keep value with inflation, cash won’t)

Merely holding onto your cash is bad because inflation will devalue your holdings.

The problem is if it gets bad enough that it will be difficult to get your assets converted back INTO cash for goods...

Very funny and very prophetic at the same time! When South Park can foresee, tongue in cheek, the future, it is a huge condemnation that our "media" and politicians cannot.

Did I say "politicians?" Sorry, I meant sociopaths.

It is becoming a stalemate. No one is ‘winning’ and both sides are losing to some degree. I dare say the Russians might have already ‘won’ by taking over the Russian speaking areas. It’s as simple as that.
