SEGUIN, Texas – Now you see him now you don’t. Seguin Police Department is on the lookout for a magician who pulled a trick right up his sleeve to several employees at a Walmart making them believe that they have given him the wrong change.

Police seek magician who tricks Walmart employees into giving wrong change (SBG San Antonio)

This magician has played this trick on two different occasions at the Walmart in Seguin, Texas, on January 10 and again on February 12.

While using a sleight of hand trick, the suspect would count the change in front of the employee and show that he was short-changed, while using the other hand to pocket a portion of the money. But that’s not all, the suspect had another outfit ready to repeat the same trick to the Walmart employees.

If you have any information or recognize this magician, you can contact Detective Schramm at 830-379-2123.

There was some guy years back - maybe it was a rich tech executive - who carried around sheets of uncut bills, and cut them out with scissors when he went to pay for something. You can buy them from the mint, but they cost more than cut currency:

This guy should just move to California and take handfuls of $20s out of the register when they open it up.

Just keep the total under $900 and he’ll be fine.

I’m sure he had lots of fun with that!

I’ve had some resistance a few times and once even had an idiot Sacramento PD jerkboot (not as smart as a jackboot, but just as dangerous) threaten to arrest me for a ‘counterfeit’.

I asked him, “You’re sure that’s what you want to do?”

He called a supervisor who called him a choice name and then apologized to me for his minion being a moron.

Aren’t $2 bills still used at race tracks? My father used to come home with them.

I have $2 bills and ‘silver’ half-dollars, but don’t use them now. They freak people out too much. I think you can still get silver dollars from the bank sometimes, but people are probably hoarding them.

I’d expect to have a real scene if I carried around uncut currency these days...

After I retired I worked a couple of retail jobs. The way to avoid this is to immediately stop what you’re doing if there’s any conversation while making change, return the money tendered and start over.

Kids get flustered, old men don’t.

I get $2 bills every year to use for Chinese New Year ‘red paper’ money. I put $8 in the envelopes and always get a big smile in return.

I’ve probably got about $60 in $2 bills left after this past Year of the Tiger. It’ll be fun using them through the course of the coming months!

They’re fun for gifts. When I was growing up, those and silver dollars were often given to kids for birthdays.

Until Bideninflation forced us into using gold coins.

I picked the shortest line at Costco to check out.

Of course the gal in front of me with a full cart pulls out a huge wad of small bills ($1 and $5’s) to pay for it. It took the kid forever to count it.

I’m glad he saved the $2 bill for last as he had to ask a co-worker “Do we take these?”

LOL.

(Now, I’m thinking that with inflation, the race tracks probably don’t even have 2-dollar bets anymore, so I guess they don’t have the bills.)

I remember this math problem from when I was a child:

There were these three men who all were released from jail the same day.

They were each provided with $10.00 to help them get started again on the outside.

They were all three so happy to be free and yet a bit disappointed to only have the small amount of money in their pockets.

They decided it would be best to stick together and go to the nearest town and get one hotel room for the night.

They walked around the town and asked several people in the town where the cheapest hotel was and went to that hotel.

When they arrived they explained their predicament to the manager and he proposed they have a single room and he would provide them two roll away beds...all for the low low price of $10.00 each. Everyone knows, $10.00 x 3 = $30.00.

The 3 men begged him for less, but he said he had to make money or he would be out of business. The 3 men hesitated but eventually agreed to each pay him their $10.00, since they were so very tired and were looking forward to getting a good night’s sleep in a soft bed.

So, the manager told the bell boy to show them to their room. When the bell boy returned back downstairs to the front desk, the manager had been feeling bad about leaving the 3 men completely broke on their first night out of jail.
So, the manager took five $1.00 bills out of the register and told the bell boy to take it to the 3 men’s room and divide it evenly among the 3 men. The bell boy took the 5 bills and started up to the 3 men’s room and had the thought that 5 doesn’t divide evenly by 3. So, he decided the easiest thing to do is give each of the 3 men a $1.00 bill and pocket the remaining 2 himself. Problem solved. Everyone’s happy. The manager, the bell boy and the 3 men.

So, now 3 men are happy because they paid $9.00 each for their room, that’s $27.00 instead of the $30.00.

Everyone knows $9.00 x 3 = $27.00 the men paid and then add in the $2 the bell boy kept, that’s $29.00. $30-$29=$1. What happened to the other dollar?

That one immediately came to mind. Great scene.

Then again, how hard could it be to con an alcoholic who's drunk pretty much all day long?

That’s weaselly math...

If you start with a bank of $35.00 - the $10 times 3, plus the $5 that the hotel man donated; then pay $30 for the rooms, what’s left is a dollar for each of the three men and 2 dollars in the bell boy’s pocket.

Nothing missing.
