Close the blinds, draw the curtains and turn off all the lights before bed. Exposure to even moderate ambient lighting during nighttime sleep, compared to sleeping in a dimly lit room, harms your cardiovascular function during sleep and increases your insulin resistance the following morning, reports a new study.
"The results demonstrate that a single night of exposure to moderate room lighting during sleep can impair glucose and cardiovascular regulation, which are risk factors for heart disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome," said Dr. Phyllis Zee. "It's important for people to avoid or minimize the amount of light exposure during sleep."
"We showed your heart rate increases when you sleep in a moderately lit room," said Dr. Daniela Grimaldi. "Even though you are asleep, your autonomic nervous system is activated. That's bad. Usually, your heart rate together with other cardiovascular parameters are lower at night and higher during the day."
Investigators found insulin resistance occurred the morning after people slept in a light room. Insulin resistance is when cells in your muscles, fat and liver don't respond well to insulin and can't use glucose from your blood for energy. To make up for it, your pancreas makes more insulin. Over time, your blood sugar goes up.
Zee's top tips for reducing light during sleep
(1) Don't turn lights on. If you need to have a light on (which older adults may want for safety), make it a dim light that is closer to the floor.
(2) Color is important. Amber or a red/orange light is less stimulating for the brain. Don't use white or blue light and keep it far away from the sleeping person.
(3) Blackout shades or eye masks are good if you can't control the outdoor light. Move your bed so outdoor light isn't shining on your face.

They didn’t have bedroom windows?
I mostly sleep through the night. Thank God. I hear it can be difficult. I used to be on call 24 7 365. Kinda got used to awakening at any time. Very light sleeper. Never bother me. Now I just wait for the west window to light up. Lights up nice and slow. The sun is my alarm now.
Ditto. NO light whatsoever. Even covered up the light up switch on the bedside floor lamp with tape. There are no electronics in the room except the clock which is dim and not at eye level.
Only a single mask. Clearly a double, or even a triple mask is indicated!
We’re all going to die!
Seriously, we’re all going to die.
Whether or not we enjoy having the TV on when we’re in bed or are enjoying an occasional Whopper with cheese with a glass of wine.
Link to the mask?
A single mask, spray painted flat black on both the inside and the outside, will not only protect you from light as you sleep but also get you high.
Hell, when the sun comes up at 6 I’ve still got 4-5 hours of sleep to go.
For some strange reason, Im on a PUN roll tonight on FR.

Zzzzzz.
So is this light problem all about light reaching the eyes. It would think that they would be very specific about that.
This is the one I use and love it. If you hurry, there’s a deal running for another hour or so. If you miss it, it’s not a lot more; just a dollar or so of savings.

problem solved TY
I immediately do not, but could you share the type of tumor?
I must consider one I think
I would love to see a study on the effects of alarm clocks. I despise alarm clocks. I stay self employed just so I don’t have to use one. I wonder how many people who died “peacefully in their sleep” were actually shocked to death by their alarm clock...
Perhaps that light you keep on because you don’t like bats are drawing the insects which draws the bats?
I just heard another thing to keep one worried about at night. They said how body cells need a time of fasting each day - like from 7 pm until 8 am. The fasting causes the cells to close up or something and “rest”. Eating late at night, etc. keeps your cells too active. And also something to do with cancer cells - they don’t ever close up (or something) so the fasting helps the good cells compete against the cancer cells.
They said during their chemo treatment they would “fast” for some period of time (24 hours???) during the treatment so the good cells wouldn’t be as affected.
I sleep with a mask and earplugs and have snacks until I go to sleep, so I guess it is a draw with me.
Large ogliodendroglioma, stage 1 or 2.
I am sorry to hear of the concern your daughter is working through and I know this is a difficult time for each of you.
I will see what I can dig up.
May God bless and guide each of you and may each glorify Him.
The government is going to shut off our electricity midnight to 6 to save the planet and our lives.
