Like so many others I am sickened by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the gigantic humanitarian crisis it continues to create. #StandWithUkraine️
At DuckDuckGo, we've been rolling out search updates that down-rank sites associated with Russian disinformation.
In addition to down-ranking sites associated with disinformation, we also often place news modules and information boxes at the top of DuckDuckGo search results (where they are seen and clicked the most) to highlight quality information for rapidly unfolding topics.
.
They really mean anyone that breaks from the Mob narrative will be punished.
Did they bury any News Links of people making up stuff about Trump being a Russian Spy?
Answer: No. Those stories are still up and prominent.
.
NATO?
Startpage just uses the Google algorithms. The only benefit for using Startpage is that Google can’t track your searches. But you’ll still be served up only what Google wants you to see.
So Startpage comes with Google's censorship, but it protects you privacy from Google.
Now that DDG is condescendingly rearranging search results for your “protection”, how long before it foregoing its raison d’etre and starts tracking your searches and selling your data?
More virtue signalling. I’ve heard of Brave but havent tried it out yet.
Well they are becoming google. Time to look for the next alternative to google.
I just switched to Brave myself.
Yes, especially since Ukrainian disinformation is probably about 90% of the US news now. So much for DuckDuckGo.
OK. So we will only be able to see one side’s disinformation now. Swell.
From another site somebody suggested Swisscows.com
“historical searches still work providing you exclude the past month or so”
Exactly.
That is where you can get an accurate discussion of Russian military capability, intentions and tactics.
They are wildly different than the current blitz of propaganda would have you believe.
However, according to Wiki: "in March 2022, Qwant filters Russian media websites from it's [sic] search results."
So long, DDG. All you’re doing now is making me miss Altavista that much more.
Agreed on Startpage.
The technique I use to avoid propaganda is this:
—Do the standard search.
—Identify the keywords used over and over again by the mass media propaganda sites. It is amazing how they use the exact same words over and over again.
—Then use the minus before all of those keywords in your next search.
Unfortunately we can’t determine what they can or will do.....but they all know that eventually they have to be on the wagon with all the others to survive. Independent operations are a thing fast becoming past....
Regarding Swisscows, Wiki says:
“Swisscows also deems itself ‘family-friendly’, with explicit results entirely omitted. The engine’s servers are based in underground data centers under the Swiss Alps, and geographically outside of EU and US. Swisscows uses Bing for web search, but has also built its own index for the German language edition. It also has shopping search, music search (powered by SoundCloud), and a language translator powered by Yandex.”
How dare you not believe Zelensky's report that the nuke plant was within minutes of exploding and "destroying Europe"! And of course it was a coincidence that NATO was about to meet 123 hours later to decide on a no-fly zone. He would never lie! Does Putin pay you in rubles?
I tested Brave Search by searching on (the horror!) “rt.com”. It worked!
DuckDuckGo is DuckDuckGone.
Will not use DFG anymore.
Detest virtue signalars.
