Why Many Household Chemicals Are Also Rocket Fuels

It turns out that many rocket fuels are basic chemicals that are used in everyday life, which means you can find them in regular stores. But you shouldn't be under any illusion that these would work or be a good idea for a rocket.

A better way to build rockets is to buy pre-made solid rocket motors, and then get certified by experts for bigger and bigger rocket motors https://www.nar.org/.

When I was a teenaged idiot dishwasher at a Red Robin burger shop in the ‘80s, I thought it’d be a smokin’ hot idea to remove the hard water stains from the dishwashing machine at the same time as sterilizing it.

Using bleach and Lime Away.

Yeah. Don’t do that.

Sounds like putting it in a trailer would be better.

Potassium nitrate?

Oh, you mean Stump Remover?

Don’t worry. I don’t plan to. I remember the results in the episode of Hogan’s Heroes. BOOM!

Thanks for the link.
Super 8 is a mixture of 8–10% sodium hypochlorite in water, stronger than household bleach. Scale Kleen contains 22–28% phosphoric acid, 18–23% nitric acid, and less than 1% urea. Generally, strong cleaners like these are used in businesses, but some may be available to the public. Mixing bleach and acid gives off chlorine gas, says Neal Langerman, CEO and principal scientist at Advanced Chemical Safety
Adding ammonia to bleach creates chloramine, another toxic gas. Bleach plus hydrogen peroxide creates oxygen gas so violently, it can cause an explosion. - https://cen.acs.org/safety/consumer-safety/Accidental-mix-bleach-acid-kills/97/i45

Good intention, bad ignorance. I have mixed bleach with dish liquid, but I also quickly dipped some rags in a mixture of ammonia, bleach and dish liquid and stuffed the rags inside some eaves on the 2nd floor porch where squirrels and pigeons had taken up residence. Later (I think) I sealed it off. Mother squirrel came running up the porch and faced me off and if looks could kill... The next day she was waiting on a step ladder on the porch when brother Bob came out on the porch, but he saw the varmint first and reacted fast enough to escape harm, thank God. I also mixed a small amount of a 35% H2o2 with bleach with no problems. Then there was the time as a young teen when I was trying to make gun powder in the basement below the kitchen where my mom was and my "Eddie Haskell" friend decided to put a match to a mixture of it. "Danny, what are you doing down there?" Thank God for how many times He saved me from the Hell I was headed to.

LOL

I laugh only because we both still can!

Seemingly innocent and well intentioned actions
can turn potently lethal in the blink of an eye.

I have to ask; was it a BOOM or a cloud of toxic gas?

It’s possible but highly unlikely to create the explosive gas hydrazine in quantities large enough to be dangerous but it’s guaranteed to create enough chloramine gas to damage your lungs and potentially kill you if you don’t get away from it fast.

It was a horrible, face twisting stench. Invisible. Luckily, opening the back doors aired it out pretty quickly.
