Unusually, resident Joe Biden had to draw those lines with fellow Democrats.
Defund the police? Forget about it, Biden said Tuesday night. With crime on the increase around the nation – making for a nervous midterm electorate – the answer is to fund the police, Biden said. He also said very pointedly that he is a capitalist, albeit one who thinks big corporations should “pay their fair share" in taxes.
On immigration, Biden called for reform – while also saying that those who "are not legitimately here can be sent back" to their home countries. He also made a point of noting the law enforcement credentials of his Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson.
It's all about addressing one of the Democrats' bigger problems as they head into a very challenging midterm election season: keeping moderate Democrats from being labeled as too progressive for their districts or the country.
"There's no question that we lost seats (in 2020) because of that," says Matt Bennett, executive vice president of the centrist Democratic group Third Way. "We know those attacks landed, and they landed hard," and similar characterizations of Democratic incumbents as "socialist" or in favor of defunding the police could cost the party even more seats this fall, he says.
Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, one of the members of the progressive "squad" in the House – delivered a fiery response to Biden's State of the Union speech Tuesday night on behalf of the Working Families Party. That move angered mainstream Democrats who don't want to have to fight both Republicans and a wing of their own party when defending their narrow and imperiled majorities this fall.

The libs want to nationalize policing. When the feds start funding the police in blue cities and states the laws will be homogenized to “create equity”.
Think of gun laws in Chicago and New York becoming, “the standard” nationwide.

Slow Joe’s lot has been cast. It’s too late for him to try and reinvent himself. I suspect the hardcore Left will remain fairly silent through his “metamorphosis”, since they’ve also seen the upcoming midterm polling.
We all know deep down you are correct. There is no magic fix coming.
BUT...the Dem's performance to date from this administration top to bottom, side to side, issue to issue has been so horrifically bad than no amount of lipstick before midterms can stop a flip of both houses.
Likely, too, we'll have fewer spineless RINOs, and enough patriots to freeze the destruction until the calvary arrives in '24 with even fewer RINOS and even more bolder patriots and a Trump or a DeSantis leading the charge.
I'll stay focused on that goal.
Enough intellectual lazy, blinded, and ignorant people vote in politicians doing the perpetual “Listen to what I say, ignore what I do” carefully packaged production among repubs and dem parties that it is a fixture which is unfortunate. Joe Biden has no more understanding of what a Democrat or a Republican is than my cat does. That Biden can even breathe is a miracle in itself because he’s that dumb.
All he knows is the Democrat machine politics that got him where he is. Graft, cronyism, bigoted attitudes towards every other class and race are his stock and trade.
He’s lying to blunt the blowout they are facing.
That’s because he is the meat puppet for the Kenyanesian Usurper.
In 2016 the Republican establishment paid the price by having their base select former Democrat Trump over the machine candidates; the Democrat establishment then paid the price by having enough of their base vote for Trump. Both establishments then colluded to remove him.

He mentioned the two NY cops who were killed, and in the next sentence he said “the police have to be held accountable”, he never said anything about criminals being held accountable. He talked about “fixing our immigration system” then said there should be a pathway to citizenship and those hear shouldn’t have wait years to bring in their families.
Essentially, Biden is as big a piece of crap as any of them, he just has the media lacking for him.
When Democrats believe their own lies and polls they lose. It is parades and rallies Democrats fear.

Bullshiitte. Brown-Jackson's soul and energy have been dedicated to getting (black and illegal alien) criminals OUT of jail, OFF of even medium sentences. She is STRICTLY pushing for early release, free release, no-bail, no-penalties, no charges from the “Dept of Just Us”.
