I’m surprised the cops didn’t seize the cash and call the guy a drug dealer.
This kind of honesty is commonplace in my culture, or was. I can understand why a Honduran, or anyone from almost anywhere else on the planet, would be astonished.
I am somewhat surprised that this good woman turned the wallet into the police.
I am very surprised that the police did not simply seize the contents because, you know, Drugs.
Now ask why he has that much cash. Because he is illegal and can not open a bank account?
Honduran?
Lots and LOTS of cash in one spot?
Hhmmmm.....
Surprised he lets his face on these. For multiple reasons. Including carrying that much makes you a marked man.
Very nice of this woman, who was complete by being “anonymous”. But I’d like to know so she can get some credit.
If one believes they will someday be called to account for their actions, then doing the right thing is not difficult.
It used to be chivalry was something practiced by gentleman who respected and admired woman and treated them nicely and according to etiquette. In today’s world you would be sexist to apply it in its usual way which in this case would not be the proper context.
He must be illegal.
A legacy US citizen would have had their money seized.
He’s lucky I was on staten island when he lost it :)

Did he get a reward?
$4,000? Must be for when he has to gas up again. Let’s Go Brandon!
I found a $20 dollar bill when I was 10 years old at the state fair. It was not in a wallet, just lying in the straw so I asked the nearest adults about it and they said, “it’s yours, kid.” There was no place to turn it in so I spent it on myself and my little brother. Call me greedy, that’s ok - it was 60 years ago.
I found a wallet with $2,000 in it and returned it to the cops, who returned it to the owner. Where’s my news story? (Waaaaaah! No thanks.)
“After verifying his identification, the cops reunited the relieved fellow with his money pouch, which, incredibly, still had all the contents inside, including the four grand.”
They then told him that carrying that much cash was “suspicious”, confiscated it under civil forfeiture, and that it will take 5 years and $10,000 in legal fees to get it back. Welcome to America.
Who has 4k in their wallet other than illegals who just cashed their Cuomo checks.
