A Country Without Pity
American Greatness ^ | 3 Mar, 2022 | Julie Kelly

When half the country has lost its sense of pity for fellow citizens, and the ruling class reserves pity only for themselves and faraway lands, what can be left of American civilization?

country without pity has lost its soul.

Sadly, that is the state of America in 2022. On the eve of the two-year anniversary—which is too celebratory a word to describe its aftermath—of useless, destructive lockdowns sold as a way to stop the spread of COVID-19, our country has been exposed as a place overpopulated with pitiless citizens gratified by the suffering of others. The common bonds that tether friendships and fellowship are in tatters, shredded by the nihilism of the ruling class, egged on by a mendacious corporate media, and amplified on ill-named “social” media platforms.

At the same time, ironically, we are led by a man who wallows in self-pity. Joe Biden shows no remorse for those suffering under his reign; Biden is capable only of feeling sorry for himself.

This was on full display during his State of the Union address on Tuesday night, where he willfully ignored the American service members killed last year during his disastrous exit from Afghanistan to again exploit his own son’s tragic death to score political points.

When Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Texas) unwittingly interrupted Biden’s sympathy set-up—as a novice to politics, Boebert presumably did not know what was coming while every other long-hauler in the House chamber clearly knew—to remind the commander-in-chief of his forgotten war dead, the reaction by those in charge was revealing. Rather than applaud her attempt to memorialize the 13 American Marines and soldiers killed by terrorists at the Kabul airport just six months ago, lawmakers groaned in disapproval.

It’s been going on for a long time, but one defining moment was Hillary’s attack on the “deplorables”. The Political Class simply hates average Americans. Now the Political Class seems unhappy to find out that average Americans hate the Political Class.

We didn’t start it.

That is the most succinct and accurate description that I have seen. Unfortunately, it isn’t JUST America that is filled with lemmings!

I think the point is that it is sociopaths making sociopaths out of the rest of us. America needs to maintain its sense of American justice and caring, despite the crass callousness of what now passes for leadership.

Now we have gone from deplorables to terrorists. I can hardly wait to see what is next.

That we allowed our country to become a banana republic was only possible because we had our bread and circus. Soon the bread will be taken. And our midnight hour efforts will be too little to late. We die standing or live on our knees.

how about we have pity on our veterans, soldiers, homeless, hungry children, cancer victims, victims of democrat-run-cities, etc. who are actual citizens, before we bother with the rest of the world? Set your house in order first.

American news is dominated by a political agenda. Everything is calculated to generate hate or sympathy that dovetails with the goals of the agenda. It’s even affected advertising. I can’t stomach social media or contemporary entertainment. Classic literature, philosophy and old movies are about all I can tolerate these days.

Open displays of contempt towards the political class are as old as Moses.

Mark Twain: "Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself."

Marcus Tullius Cicero: "Politicians are not born; they are excreted."

It’s hard to have pity for those people in far-away countries when your own country is a bastion of evil and corruption.

Under the despot reign of King Louis XIV of France, do you think Frenchmen were pitying the plight of those poor Africans living in mud huts?

How do you think Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders and Austrians feel about their government overlords draconian COVID laws? These people are living under the jackboot of tyrants in Western Democracies.

So don’t moralize to me about how I am supposed to have pity for those poor souls in foreign countries when the evil Biden regime has it’s boot on my face.

I am sure the Jews climbing into boxcars in the 1940's felt the same way.

this ‘attitude’ goes all the way back to the days of the Vietnam war.

the intelligentsia-pointyhead professors-and the democratic party all hated the half-drafted troops.

that hatred bubbled, fermented, and spread, all the way to today, which now included all those students from high school to college, to the next crop of intelligentsia-proffesors.

I hope everyone takes time to read the entire column and not just these few paragraphs, all of it is well worth reading.

Enough Germans had certainly been made sociopaths, by then, that is sure. It does not take long to rot a nation’s soul.

Very good article! The left feels no pity but likes to pose for pity every chance they get.
