In a rare event in Costa Rica, a local fisherman was attacked by a crocodile, not once but twice, resulting in his death. The angler, Lidier Murillo, 43, was fishing along the Coto River, outside Golfito, when the tragedy occurred.
According to a witness, Murillo was grabbed by the crocodile with is friend Alvaro Rodriguez. Murillo had waded out into the river mouth while Rodriguez was fishing from shore.
According to local media reports, Murillo cried out for help when the beast grabbed him. Rodriguez was initially able to reach him but the crocodile soon began to drag them both out to deeper water.
Rodriguez was quickly able to find a heavy piece of wood and began to beat and stab at the crocodile resulting in Murillo being released from its grasp.
Rodriguez pulled his friend out of the water and onshore. However, while he went to get help from other fisherman nearby the crocodile returned to grab Murillo again.
With the help of fellow anglers, Rodriguez and the others were able to once again free Murillo and get him to shore.
Unfortunately, the injuries suffered by Murillo were very severe and by the time ambulances arrived to the remote area, he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Everyone is hoping to be the last one thrown to the crocodiles.
Let’s give the crocodile half a point.
I came close to having this happen at the Osa Peninsula in Cost Rica. Was fishing at an inlet that fed into a large bay near our cabin. Had my back to the little river. A local came by and hollered at me to get out. I went over to him and he told me a big Croc liked to swim into the bay from the stream. We saw it come down minutes later, a monster.
Does this mean they are going to go out and kill every crocodile for miles in every direction until they say they found the man eater. Fish from the bank and they generally won’t bother you. Same thought process with sharks except they don’t come out of the water but they, also, eat what’s provided.

‘...Murillo was grabbed by the crocodile with is friend Alvaro Rodriguez...’
the croc has a friend named Alvaro Rodriguez...?
They make good boots.
Thumbs up.
RIP, poor guy.
President Trump said he admired the crocodile - it was smarter than the fisherman.
Well, Brandon imposed a “no more eating birds” sanction on the croc. Nothing about fish or large rodents.
It’s rare but it happens.I have a customer who fishes very remote areas of the everglades and catches black drum. ONe day he and his family caught a nice fish, over ten lbs. laid it on the shore and actually shot a cellphone video of a 12 foot croc coming ashore stealing the fish and going back into the water. I’ll see if I can get it.
12 foot is a very good sized croc. Love to see the video
