The late Jerry Lewis has been accused of sexual assault and sexual harassment by a string of his former co-stars.
Lewis - remembered by many as 'The King of Comedy' - died of natural causes in 2017 aged 91, and now an exposé documentary by Vanity Fair alleges that he mistreated actresses Karen Sharpe, Hope Holiday and many others.
The documentary feature released Wednesday, titled The Dark Side of a Hollywood Icon, was helmed by Amy Ziering and Kirby Dick who produced HBO's sensational Allen v Farrow, that documented accusations of sexual abuse brought against Woody Allen by his daughter Dylan Farrow.

I think they broke up over too much money, too many women, too much attention paid to two men who both wanted more...and being so closely linked together for 10 years in front of huge crowds. Both had big egos. And both wanted to prove they could be a success separately.
Lewis was a jerk by most accounts but he had more temptations than most of us will ever face too. They never became close friends again but they did communicate. When Dean’s son died, Dean largely died too.

If it happened, why didn’t they say anything before? Seems anyone can make something up if they want to decades later without having any proof.
Can’t speak for his behavior regarding women, but I do know someone who worked at a Yacht company in South Jersey. Didn’t like what one of the workers said and demanded he be fired. John Wayne was checking out a boat there too. Guys on the line loved him.
Felt the same way when I heard Walter Pigeon was gay.
Karen Sharpe. I saw her in only one movie, called “Man in the Vault”. She was cute.
Oh the Bob Hope stuff is true. When I was a teenager our band was at St Petersburg. My dad was a chaperone and did bedroom checks on all the boys. While doing so he watched as Bob Hope escorted a woman into his rooms and it wasn’t his wife.
This article doesn’t tell the whole truth and is an unfair characterization. It may have been very true that he was sexually aggressive with women co-stars, and aggressive with people, but I’ll bet he didn’t remember it. I watched a documentary on him a number of years ago and he didn’t remember his divorce or his remarrying due to his use of an extremely potent pain killer.
At age 39, he fell off a piano during a performance at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas and broke bones in his spine that left him partially paralyzed with constant pain. He was able to perform only after taking Percodan, one of the most potent painkillers on the market. He said that he took up to 13 pills a day. Virtually all people who take Percodan opiates for an extended period get very sick when they try to stop taking them. Furthermore, the more you take, the less it helps to reduce your pain, so you keep on taking higher and higher doses to block the pain. He used it for 13 years and didn’t get off it until after 1980 when his first wife divorced him and he had almost no memory of his second marriage in 1983.
In the documentary he mentioned that normally he had a bell boy come in and mix the drug with hot water so it would get into his system faster when he was on the road and before he got up in the mornings in traction.
I used it when I was hit and recovering in the military in the late 60’s. I, also, had brief disappearance of memory that sometimes lasted an entire day because if I was alone at home, I would take a second helping because I forgot I took the first one. Percodan I was told was guesstimated at seven times the strength of raw codeine. I can understand how he spaced. My caring wife locked it up after I made a trip to see some people about a block away and had no memory of it.
So there is a chance he was not doing this on his own but with the intoxication of the Opioid. And I can vouch for the results of what it is capable of. I went through some DT’s when I stopped taking it.

I don’t know about his me too activities but he always struck me as an angry man who could turn moods in a second. His son wrote he was a very mean father who was hooked on pain pills.

He used to carry on with an actress named Marilyn Maxwell. She accompanied him on many USO tours and she was referred to as “Mrs. Hope” When Marilyn Maxwell died Bob Hope was a pall bearer at her funeral. Hope’s real wife Dolores was a staunch Catholic and did not believe in divorce she stayed with him even though his philandering did hurt her.
I didn’t think he was funny, either.
We always watched the telethons when I was a kid, but I got a creepy vibe from him. Maybe it was the greasy hair.
Best story I heard about Dean Martin was he would regularly invite all these people over to his house (known as the wild party spot), and sneak off almost immediately to go to bed and watch westerns. When it got to be about ten-thirty or so, he’d call his cop friends and report his own house for disturbing the peace, and have them clear out the partygoers.
He got his full nights rest, and kept the brand up as the wildest place in town.

The French film intellectuals thought he was America’s representative of the “Theater of the Absurd” genre in film and theater and it sort of went to his head. In one interview from about 10 years ago, he tried to get intellectual with some film theory patter and came off as a pedestrian merchant of film theory cliches.
On the other hand, it may say a lot about the ex-wife and the 6 sons that may have disinherited Jerry............I've seen that before.

Dean got tired of Jerry’s quest for more money all the time. Or so the story goes.
He criticised his father, saying: "Jerry Lewis is a mean and evil person. He was never loving and caring toward me or my brothers. I don't know if Joe's death is drug related, but I believe it could have been prevented if he and my father had been on better terms. I believe he partly died of a broken heart. Like somebody said above, watch a Jerry Lewis interview. The man was a piece of filth. His MD telethons were false altruism only for self aggrandizement.
For comparison watch a Fred Rogers interview, especially one with one of his sons along with him.
