An Australian man has been convicted of possessing child sex dolls under new laws to combat abuse against minors.
Terry Dunnett, 45, pleaded guilty Wednesday in District Court in Brisbane to two counts of possessing a child sex doll, one count of attempting to possess a child sex doll and possessing child exploitation material, abc.net.au reported.

Exactly. People who play video games shoot a lot of people in the game, but they aren't shooting people and would not be arrested for murder. This guy is playing with a doll. I don't want to hang out with the guy, but playing with dolls is not illegal.

Summed up well, thanks. This is where sound and firm judgement is required. I see the libertarian aspect but honestly the nature of this poses such a risk to the general society that it begs for some kind of intervention.

What the Hell is it these days? In the past, people would be wary about taking actions because they would consider the ramifications and future effects of what they did.
The “Slippery Slope” is called just that for a reason. People seem to be unable to understand that a government that can force you to undergo an invasive medical procedure and justify it because of something such as COVID (that has a likely fatality rate between 0.1-1.0%) can pretty much justify having you undergo any procedure for any reason.
Thus it is with this. People don’t understand the ramifications of this. This IS a conviction for “ThoughtCrime”. And the only people who are concerned about it are the people who read and understand Orwell’s “1984”.
Another factor here, I think, is that we are importing goods from unscrupulous countries like China. There are many reasons we should not be, including this one.
Those same government arguing for this prosecution would like also argue that you MUST, under penalty of law, call men, women, and women, men. Their moral compass isn’t all that.
Further out on the slippry slope: You’ll be arrested for a hate crime if you DON’T HAVE SEX with some same sex person who comes on to you.
Yeah, I don’t trust government to dictate morality. You get more of the devil’s than you do God’s. But so far there are no laws telling me I have to call a ‘he’ a ‘she’.
Not sure whether allowing somebody with such depraved desires to try to satisfy them with dolls will make it more likely or less likely that they will eventually abuse children to satisfy it. But at least the guy was trying to satisfy it without harming anyone at the time.
Bizarre topic. All I can say is, I would MUCH prefer sick perverts had sex with child dolls than children or watching child porn. If having a goofy doll and keeping their fantasies all in their heads keeps them from acting on those fantasies, then more power to them. The cops should have left him alone but watched him to make sure he didn’t act on it.
That said, I know that the doll is probably just a gateway. At some point, he is going to get bored with the doll and sickly want the real thing.
Still, I can’t think of a single reason why having a doll would be a crime or warrant arrest or jail. Stupid. The dude is sick in the head but he didn’t do anything illegal.

Agreed! So the govey down, down, down, under needs to now start arresting parents who post pictures of their children on social media, thereby assisting or being complicit with pedofiles in “exercising their craft”!

The guy is clearly a sick dude, but getting his jollies with dolls beats the heck out of grabbing real kids. I suspect that’s what he doesn’t want to do. China sure have every angle covered when it comes to bringing down the west.
Actually it’s Australia, but that is morphing quickly, too.
