(AP) — The three men convicted of murder in Ahmaud Arbery’s fatal shooting were found guilty of federal hate crimes Tuesday for violating Arbery’s civil rights and targeting him because he was Black.
The jury reached its decision after several hours of deliberation on the charges against father and son Greg and Travis McMichael and neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan.
During the trial, prosecutors showed roughly two dozen text messages and social media posts in which Travis McMichael and Bryan used racist slurs and made derogatory comments about Black people. The FBI wasn’t able to access Greg McMichael’s phone because it was encrypted.
The McMichaels grabbed guns and jumped in a pickup truck to pursue Arbery after seeing him running in their neighborhood outside the Georgia port city of Brunswick in February 2020. Bryan joined the pursuit in his own pickup and recorded cellphone video of Travis McMichael fatally shooting Arbery. The killing became part of a larger national reckoning on racial injustice after the graphic video leaked online two months later.
Defense attorneys contended the three didn’t chase and kill Arbery because of his race but acted on the earnest, though erroneous, suspicion that Arbery had committed crimes in their neighborhood.

No, that is the *ONLY* reason they are going to prison. Had they been black, or the piece of sh*t criminal been white, this would have never made the news, and it would have never made the courts.
They are scapegoats, nothing else.
That is *YOUR* prejudice speaking. When the thefts first occurred at that house, the owner sent them video footage of the perpetrator. Even the prosecutor admitted at trial that all those videos of Arbery rummaging through the house in the middle of the night were indeed Arbery.
So yeah, they had more evidence than "you ain't from around here, boy" to go on.
Let me say again. McMichael had *VIDEO* of Arbery going through the house at night. He had several videos of this.
if you see a lone non white loitering where there is no reason for them to be there, you get suspicious....I would get suspicious with non black people as well....
there had been robberies in that neighborhood....
these guys were going to be proactive....

it sucks for them because I don't think they intentionally went out to hurt somebody let alone kill someone, but stupidity will get you into jail just as quick as malace.
I can see what you said about me is true. It is selfish to not think of the injustices done to the defendants.
It comes from not wanting all of us to be labeled, doxxed, hunted down, canceled and banned on social media. Those are the stakes of slander against us when we didn’t do anything.
They call us “domestic terrorists” for Jan. 6th and AOC spreads the lie that even though she wasn’t actually in the Capitol at all on Jan.6th, that someone from us (the conservative right) was trying to murder her. If not try to date her.

Maybe I’m not paying attention to the facts of the case, because only the verdict is of interest to me. That was what I was told the case was, and I took it at face value. Life is too short to study videos on everything that appears on the news. Do you really believe I’m part of some damned conspiracy to frame these three idiots?

But the media lies, if that’s what this is, seemed credible enough, perhaps because of my damyankee upbringing and the attendant unconscious prejudices. But I’m not watching any videos. Let their lawyer tell it to the appeals courts.
The State Attorney did not agree with them. The Georgia GBI did not agree with them. The Judge did not agree with them. And last but not least the Jury did not agree with them.

First, before anyone was following him, he realized he was spotted, and ran off. And yes, he had plenty of time and ability to call 911, if he had a cell phone on him.

The facts are in. They didn’t have legal cause for citizens arrest. They turned the confrontation physical. They murdered him. If you think any of that is funny you’re a sick despicable humanbeing.
