Senator Marco Rubio Washington, D.C. 284 Russell Senate Office Building Washington DC, 20510 Phone: (202) 224-3041 Toll free in Florida: (866) 630-7106
Florida Senator Marco Rubio wrote amendments to the Lacey Act, approved by the House and now before the Senate, that creates a White List of approved species. 1500 species of all animals and wild collected plants will be legal to ship. All the rest are banned. This ends the collection and protection of rare and endangered species and guarantees their destruction. Politics just bit us on the nose. What are we going to do about it?
“I think they should catch all those big snakes and turn them loose in DC.”
DC is all ready over run with giant snakes.
This strikes me as unconstitutional, against the 10th amendment.
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
The basic approach was that everything is legal unless the PTBs prohibit it, otherwise it’s legal. It would be like saying that breathing is illegal unless we allow you to do so.
“cute little puppy becomes a 70lb energetic teenager.”
I have 81-pound through the roof teenager. His name is Stuart Little. Not so little anymore.
Hey dummy, no name, My friend Carol Baskins told me about a cool trick her tigers do. Wanna come over and say “hi” to Shasha, 600# but, shes a sweetie.
This is actually a pretty big problem in Florida, the state that sent Rubio to the senate to represent their interests.
I want to see the list and find out how much it costs to maintain and enforce it before I make a judgment call, but whitelist (and an appropriate appeals process) should be the type of appropriate answer in an ideal world.
The worst invasive species (bugs mainly ... but also fish) can’t be controlled through this sort of measure, they can hitch rides on produce and in ballast tanks of ships, and a lot of invasive species that get out are food animals imported under the guise of being pets. The amount of effort it would take to enforce it at borders is also burdensome, how are you going to know that the baby fish in some tank are snake heads and not some other species?
The cold would kill the snakes. Why not take the House and Senate and dump them in a Florida swamp, instead?
God help us if the solutions to Florida’s many problems become federal law.
This was fake the other two times you posted it.
Well, they can import stuff on the “whitelist”, or they can apply for a special exemption from government bureaucrats. I suppose we’ll need to hire some more bureaucrats to process those exemption requests too.
Did you even read the amendment?

“ There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.”
May not ship to your State.
“presumptive prohibition on the importation of any nonnative species of wild mammal”
What we need is a presumptive prohibition on the importation of human invaders.
I watch a video of a conservative journalist who moved from Washington DC to Florida. Main reason is that DC is over run with rats (animal). Are the DC leaders so stupid to not know that rats carry the Plague! WTF? Basic government is to protect its people. What a failure!
You must be kidding! So what if someone wants to park 3 or 4 elephants in their back yard? They should be allowed to do it? Do you want to live next door to someone who owns a tiger, bear, or lion, and allows it loose in the yard?
No wonder you call yourself “No name given.” I wouldn’t give a name either if I said something that stupid.
I sat next to Irene Pepperberg of Alex the Parrot fame at a wedding, and it made for interesting conversation.
She said it was often like living with an angry adolescent...
This is a seriously stupid post.
I hope “yap yap” dogs go first.
