Need Manly Information. A family member is selling his big diesel truck and thinking of purchasing a Raptor. Two people disparaged the Raptor and said it was a "kids truck". Manly Freepers? Your opinions? Freeperettes with hairy chests welcome to comment.
Unfortunately these are complex systems that are technical to repair. A lot of software stuff that needs brand specific tools to really repair properly.
It’s a lesser cousin of the one Ford Racing uses in the venerable Ford GT. Nice hardware, but nowhere near the supercharged 750+ hp in my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI V8, which also will tow 7,200 lbs.
You mean the one with the built in defroster/hardwares for pushing?
Different trucks for different purposes. The diesel is playing better for towing. The Raptor is better for off-roading.
Buying a truck based on how “manly” it looks is shallow and stupid. You buy a truck for a job you need to do, not for how it makes you look. Now if he wants a Raptor just so he can go fast off-road then his intentions are more boyish than manly. Boys play while men work.
You did say ...”any Diesel”. That would mean you think Diesels with Turbos are junk also.
My son has a 2.7L w/Turbos in his Ford. Turbos ran fine up to 600,000 miles. I would not be concerned with Ford Ecoboost.

Me too. I have always enjoyed freeper automotive input though.
It’s his money, he’s the only one who should care. Men buy what THEY want, not what other people say they should.
Makes sense
Agreed. My question wasn’t for him but for me to try to understand why they said it.
OMG! Awesome!!!
Just asked my husband, who has been in the car business for forty years, and has vast experience and knowledge, said, “the Raptor is a unique truck, with Heavy duty suspension, V6 twin turbo charged, over 500 lbs of torque and 450 horsepower. Wider front end, more aggressive looks. It is a true off road truck and hold its value incredibly.
Ok. I agree. But, how the heck did my truck know it needed a software update in the middle of BFE??
I did follow up today with a call to Nissan - Consumer Affairs to bellyache. I routinely have the oil changed and tires rotated. Why didn’t Nissan service update the software while there?
It sucks that I can’t trust a fairly new pickup 100 miles away from home.
MFO
Why does he want to trade? It is a very good question to ponder.
My own experience: pickup truck owners are very opinionated, brand loyal and fuel type loyal. I have quite a few friends who own diesels and routinely yank the chains of those who don't, for example.
I own an F-150. Friends who own Chevys or RAMs give me crap and I give them crap. Last year when I was buying my first pickup ever, I heard everyone's opinions on what to buy. Then I bought what I wanted anyway.
It's a guy thing. That's just how it goes. It's the same thing with muscle cars.
f350 lariat godzilla gasoline or ram 3500 cummins diesel
You’re welcome.
“People that drive these cowboy SUC’s need something to make them less aware of their other deficiency’s”
It’s the little kids who think trucks are pecker enhancers.
Spot on.
