I used to work for a Dutch company located in the south of NL, on the German border. I would fly into Dusseldorf and drive to Venlo (about 35 miles). Listening to the radio, at first I could not tell Dutch from German. But after being there awhile it became clear. Dutch is definitely far more difficult than German.

It’s been decades since I took German in college, and it really seems easy to pronounce after listening to those Dutch speakers.

I used to be considered fluent in German. I can read Dutch but can only make out about 1 word in 10 of spoken Dutch.
