M-class solar flares are medium-sized space weather events that can cause temporary radio blackouts on Earth, according to the European Space Agency.
The burst, which came from a sunspot called AR2936, was especially long-lasting, enduring for more than four hours, astronomer Tony Phillips reported at Spaceweather.com.
This outburst is a type of CME known as a "halo CME," which appears larger than the sun in coronagraph images obtained by sungazing spacecraft as the solar particles approach Earth, appearing like a circular halo.

They’ll name this one Landon-2 and it will be featured on CNN as the lead story to keep the real bad news from not making TIER I status.
Is this why my favorite TV stations have scrambled pictures or say no service? In a mid Atlantic state.
Nope, they’re probably trying to broadcast coverage of the truckers’ convoy, or Whoopi’s latest gaffe.
My partner has been after me to get a hearing aid because I ask him sometimes to repeat what he said or something said on TV or radio while my attention was elsewhere. He often talks soft and low. Usually he has the TV on too loud for my comfort and I turn it down. When I was young I had trouble hearing the lyrics in popular music. In fact I have always had difficulty distinguishing conversation in mixed noise settings like loud clubs or restaurants. He thinks that there are hearing aids that can fix that specific problem. I don’t have trouble hearing most quiet noises, faucets dripping, birds chirping, chrickets outside, etc. I have not felt I was generally hard of hearing. Do you have any thoughts on my situation regarding getting a hearing aide.
I hear low/bass type noise and hear hi pitched sounds. My loss is mid range (conversation type sounds). My new hearing aides are tuned to help that. A good audiologist and a good test are important. The aides aren’t cheap and the US Military Service helped with them. Then again they helped me lose some of the hearing function. My aides for my years seems decent, could’ve been worse.
Hi!
Like you, I’ve had hearing problems most of my life.
It started out with a hearing test at school, where we learned I had “nerve loss” in my right ear. It became worse as time went on working in loud factories without protection and being in band in high school, and going to a couple of unworldly loud rock concerts.
It sounds like our problems are similar. I have trouble with normal conversation
w/out them. I can sit at the kitchen table and not understand a word of what anyone is saying. I can hear higher frequencies better than lower ones, but it would still be a struggle. W/out the aids, my hearing overall is at about 10-15%
normal. With them, it’s about, I would say about 80-85% of what it should be.
Certainly not perfect, but The aids I have I bought on Amazon about $300.
Two things from my experience: some people are just LOUDER than other people- with my aids adjusted for me to hear loud enough, a loud person can just about blow my brains out, and that can cause more hearing damage.
Some people talk soft, or low and I either have to adjust the aids or move closer.
My brother is soft-spoken, my wife is loud. Family functions make me cringe…
Item 2: EDUCATE yourself as much as you can. Find out what’s out there.Get evaluated by a trained audiologist. Read as many reviews as you can- I tend to search out the bad reviews and read them carefully.
Hearing aides are like anything else you might buy, the best ones are gonna cost more, possibly thousands of dollars, they have a lot more features.
If you go to a hearing aide center and get evaluated, BEWARE the hard sell!
Some of these guys are like used car salesmen! If you can afford top-of-the-line, go for it, but make darn sure they will work for you.
I bought what I could afford, at that time, my insurance wouldn’t cover any of the cost. Maybe yours will. It’s your money.
I hope this helps. I never heard a woodpecker in my life before I had hearing aids.🙂
I have the Closed Captioning on my tv 24/7. It does help keep the piece….
