New Law Will Install Kill Switches In All New Cars

Dang, I'm usually on top of the news but I missed seeing this one. If this has been posted please remove.

According to an article written by former U.S. Representative Bob Barr, hidden away in the recently passed infrastructure bill, the very one I warned before would negatively impact drivers across the country if it were to pass, is a measure to install vehicle kill switches into every new car, truck, and SUV sold in this country. The regulation likely won’t be enforced for five years, so maybe there’s time to do something about this.

As we’ve seen both in this country and others recently, what constitutes “law-abiding” can change drastically overnight. For example, in September a car was pulled over in New Zealand and the occupants arrested when police discovered the trunk was full of Kentucky Fried Chicken meals. They were smuggling the fast food to customers in locked-down Auckland, against quarantine measures. Yet not too long before, delivering restaurant orders to people was considered a reputable, legal activity.

If a criminal wanted to share with me how to disable one of those kill switches I’d let her (or him).

Imagine a total war where the ChiComs hack every Vehicle in United States before a massive attack.

Not necessary. All they have to do is hack the water or electrical grid and 95% of American's will be dead within a year.

This is already possible with electric cars, unless each individual owner makes certain adjustments.
A third party can disable a customers car.
Thoughts of ransom and extortion cross the mind.

Not sure how this would work for its intended purpose. Bluetooth? Need to be close for it to work. Cell connections? Must get plate number to get vin to disable.

The weak link is the communications. Cut the antenna. The cell connection is not really needed with phones hosting the apps.

Lots of older cars no longer connect with 3G going way. Same will probably happen with 4G and so on. So even once the feature comes out, it will most likely not work on cars older than 10 years.

ALCR’s (automatic lic. plate readers), speed cameras, traffic intersection cameras, alcohol sensors, vehicle disable capabilities...just more big brother control on law abiding citizens. Damn leftists.

Or simply not complying with tyranny. That’s what it’s coming down to…tyranny pushing us to war. Sadly, there will be a point where it’s simply self preservation. We know how this ends if we simply “comply”.

My 2021 RAV4 hybrid gets updates via 3G and can connect to my wifi. I can unsubscribe but that alters many features. Will the government tap into this? Does tyranny care? I believe any car 2010 and newer could be taken over at some capacity.

I don't care. I have no intentions of ever buying a new car again. After learning that you cannot replace a window switch on one of my vehicles without getting the dealer to program it to work with your vehicle, I decided I couldn't stand the thought of other people controlling my ability to repair my vehicle.

I have long been contemplating getting myself an old antique car to drive, and I have finally done so. I shall now go through the enjoyment of fixing it up enough to be my regular car.

I'm going back to the past. The rest of you can deal with the future in which other people control your car.

And a lot of parts are being made in China now. I’ve seen youtube channels that show the terrible crap that’s being sold now. Disc brake rotors that break apart, bearings that are gritty out of the box. Aftermarket fuel pumps that are junk.

Anyone with a working knowledge of cars could disable them (Kill Switches).

Probably every EV and most hybrids already have that capability embedded in the controllers. And waiting several years to enforce is just window dressing. It might take that long to figure out how to redesign the ignition systems of Internal Combustion engines to add the capability -- which will have the intended effect of hastening the extinction of ICE engines cause Detroit isn't going to incur that cost when they've already decided that ICE going to be dead in a decade or less.

99.9% of the American people do not care. I am more concerned about Big Tech controlling elections and such.

This will probably pass and in 10 years no one will even think about it just like having to use seat belts.

I remember when DNA testing first came out and everyone was against it. It was going to be the end of our civil rights, end of privacy, the Mark of the Beast

Now, everyone cheers when a murderer from 25 years ago gets arrested from old dna or they use it to solve crimes or people find their relative on 23&Me.

The gov’t already know where you are by your phone and Ip, facial recognition, voice recognition and knows more about you than your wife knows by your internet history.

"Imagine a total war where the ChiComs hack every Vehicle in United States before a massive attack. These control freaks are ridiculous, insane, and dangerous"

Imagine if the ChiComs released a virus, staged a coup, stole a U.S. election, installed a puppet as president, and with assistance from compromised politicians, passed a "law" where every vehicle in the U.S.A could be instantly crippled.

“The switch was hidden under the passenger side of the dash.”

Great idea. Reminds me of a friend that put a horn in the back end of his car. When stuck in traffic at the University with students walking between the stopped cars, he could honk that rear horn and the students would think is was coming from the car behind his.

“Next, these will be installed in everyone’s upcoming required pacemaker.”

BOL! One of our longest time wise, friends had a pacemaker installed last year post Covid.

His joke is, “If he isn’t home when expected, his daughter will push a button to show where his car is and if he is driving it.

Then, she will as a head RN for a big health care PPO will start zapping him until he comes home to his Grannie unit in his daughter’s backyard.

Only minor zaps and a then a radio message will be transmitted, “Get your butt home now! Or I will really zap you.!”

We have friends from coast to coast with the new Pacemakers.

When the Pacemakers were installed, the patients were told to check in weekly, then monthly and now “Call if you need help!” The new pacemakers are apparently monitored around the clock and let the PA’s/techs monitoring the Pacemakers, know if there is a problem.

China doesn’t need to hack anything. Just let loose an EMP.

The only way around this will be driving older cars.”

We have been having these discussions in our family.

There may be some early inheritances re older vehicles being passed on before we pass on.

Like my wife and I really don’t need an older pickup and an older Lexus. One good old vehicle 99.9% of the time is enough.

Our siblings are having these discussions now.

In China they already have all this. If you go to the police they can show you where you have been. They can show you where your work cubical is and how many days off you took. They track where your phone is at all times. They want to track your car, and who you hang with. If your phone travels with another phone, they know you are associated. If your phone calls a phone or stays for a certain time in proximity to another phone they have association. The police have all this available to them at all times. They just have to want to look at it. If you go to the police to renew a visa they look to see if your working or if you moved. They tell by your phone.

By the way, your phone also has wechat that has your bank account. It is watched by all the cameras. It has a copy of your figure prints and your face. If you do stuff they don’t like, you lose contact with your own bank account. You can’t travel. Your in jail and they don’t have to do a thing.

When I was born, America was widely know as the most free nation on Earth.

Now, as I reach retirement age, it has begun resembling Nazi Germany and the Stalinist USSR, one of which ended 11 years before I was born and the other 3 years before.

Doesn’t say much for my generation.
