What’s stopping you from going meatless? A new survey says lack of flavor is the number one factor.
the take out ^

It’s becoming easier and easier to adopt a plant-based diet. Along with more ways to make fruits and vegetables delicious, there’s no shortage of meatless fish, chicken nuggets, beloved fast food burgers, even whole restaurant concepts dedicated to plant-based eats. While the introduction of some of these items leaves us scratching our heads, wondering if the arguments for sustainable meatless eating are even possible under our broken food system, the good news is that such developments continue to normalize vegetarian and vegan lifestyles.

So, what’s stopping people from ditching meat for good? Talker reports that taste may be the number-one factor. In a poll of 2,000 Americans (commissioned by vegan cheese brand Violife), 17% of respondents said they had tried a plant-based diet but couldn’t keep it up, citing lack of flavor and not enough options as the top deterrents. Some also pointed to social and familial pressures, saying it was much harder to maintain a vegan or vegetarian diet when those around them were sticking to meat and cheese. Peer pressure truly never goes away.

Still, there seems to be a widespread interest in trying to incorporate at least some vegan and vegetarian practices into daily life. Of those surveyed, half said they were curious about trying out a plant-based diet, with 75% saying they would rather pick and choose some plant-based options rather than going “all in” on the lifestyle. On average, folks who tried out veganism and vegetarianism fully stuck to it for three months.

Health seems to be the top motivating factor for switching up eating habits (even though the survey also shows that 63% of people eat whatever they want and don’t give a hoot about health factors—very relatable).

As expensive as meat is, the plant based meat alternatives cost more. And while they are much more palatable than they used to be they still aren’t as good. Or as nutritious.

What is stopping me? This kind of presumes that its a goal to be obtained. If we can make that kind of presumption what’s stopping the author of this article from donating all their Earthy possessions to me so they can go live out in the wilderness? Do they have good reasons? Perhaps they should explain themselves because they seem so behind the times. Its current year, come on man, do something for Mother Earth.

“not everyone does well on a vegetarian diet”

My church has an annual fast in January, doing the whole fast follows the Daniel fast plan. That’s fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, water and some fruit juices for 21 days.

No meat, chicken, fish, dairy, alcohol etc.

In years past I was able to tolerate it with little problem....this year I had to break the fast after around 14 days, my body just wasn’t tolerating it physically.

For me that kind of diet just ain’t normal.

What is stopping? Well, the simulated meat-like product is devoid of tasty, delicious meat. When I compare the ingredients list, the meat packet has just the kind of meat listed. The textured vegetable protein ingredients list has a block of text that looks like a small-print version of the Magna Carta.

What’s stopping you from going meatless?

I'm an omnivorous mammal, born with incisors.

It's not nice to fool Mother Nature.

We have been warned for decades not to eat highly processed foods. Yet we are then told to eat highly processed soy and tofu made to taste like meat.
Does anyone process meat to make it taste like broccoli or spinach? NO! Because people like the flavor of MEAT!

So if I want meat, I will eat MEAT! Beef, Pork, Deer, Chicken, Buffalo...

How do I feel about meat? Go into my garage and try to put your hand all the way into my upright freezer. Not much room in there. Frozen vegetables go into the smaller freezer in the kitchen.

Remember the cover of The Guess Who LP Artificial Paradise:

“A trainload of choice cut meat. Enough animal flesh to satisfy even the most demanding palette. Gorge yourself on the very best the slaughterhouse industry has to offer.”

Great album cover, and a pretty good album too.

I love meat, but if I want to lose weight I go full on veggie for a month or two. Last time my cholesterol dropped by 100 and I lost almost 30 pounds.
I’m actually doing it right now. I eat as often as I want and also still drink beer when I want. Already lost 15 in 3 weeks.

I don’t eat much meat, but that’s irrelevant. Humans have eaten meat since there were humans. The protein allowed them to become intelligent, develop language, and to build a civilization.

It is normal and natural to eat animals. Animals eat animals and plants. Some plants eat animals.

I watched this video about seed oils the other day and I think it may have changed my life....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQmqVVmMB3k

I went through our pantry and found these oils are in EVERYTHING. They are in smoked oysters, microwavable rice, cheese, lunchmeat, crackers, bread, etc, etc....

Between added sugar and seed oils, the USDA and big Ag have effectively poisoned our food supply.

--- "the latest marketing buzz-word...."

My wife thinks that "marketing" is among the great evils of the world, when it comes to food. She is a great cook, and I love to grill.

Meat comes from creatures, not chemical companies.

I just can’t bring myself to eat lawn clippings and pretending they’re a burger. It’s like watching CNN. Nothing but fake BS.
