The Hyattsville Mayor reportedly shot himself dead in a Virginia park, authorities revealed.
Kevin Ward, 44, a father-of-two, died on Tuesday from an 'apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.'
His body was found in Fort Marcy Park in Virginia, roughly 20 miles away from Hyattsville, in Maryland, the Washington Post reported.
Ward, who leaves behind two children and a husband, was elected in May as the first African American and strived to help his community rebuild after the pandemic and create a safe haven for undocumented immigrants and the LBGT+ community.
The politician renamed the largest park in the city after African-American artist David Driskell, who would have not been played to play there as a child, according to the Hyattsville Wire.
He also advocated for affordable housing, sustainability, environmental awareness, and for his local LGBT+ community. The city also became a sanctuary city for undocumented immigrants in 2017.
In June, he won the LBGTQ Excellence in Government Award, presented by Prince George's County Pride and Streetcar 82 Brewing Co., during the city's first-ever pride parade.
'This will not be one and done. We will continue to do this year on year here in the city. We have an open and affirming community, and we want to show people who we are, by showing our appreciation for those who live here,' he said as he accepted his award, before saying he wanted to make next year's event 'bigger and bolder.'
The city adored their mayor as much as he adored them. He and his husband moved to the city in 2014 after adopting their two sons, according to the Washington Post.

Big promoter of illegal immigrants and LGBTQ living there, and changed the name of the city park to an African-American artist. Obviously an exemplar of gay marriage and gay parenting. Checked all boxes for a happy and fulfilled progressive life!!! So, what went wrong?

The choice of Ft. Marcy Park seems very staged; I agree. And why would a flaming lib-prog like himself want to remind everyone negatively about the Clintons by suiciding there? I think he may have been killed there or transported there.
They could put a public men's restroom in his honor.
