Navy races to salvage stealth F-35 that crashed on aircraft carrier while landing in South China Sea

The U.S. Navy has begun to make plans to recover the F-35C fighter jet that crashed Monday after striking the deck of an aircraft carrier in the South China Sea. The jet is the most advanced stealth fighter jet in the world and would have made an enticing target for China if it had attempted to recover it from the depths of the Pacific Ocean.

The crash of one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world into international waters had fueled speculation that the U.S. Navy might quickly launch a salvage operation to prevent other foreign powers, especially China, from trying to do the same.

Ganyard believes China probably has a general idea of where the jet entered the waters of the South China Sea, making its advanced stealth technology an enticing target for China to launch its own salvage operation.

While Monday's crash marked the Navy's first F-35C crash at sea, it will not be its first operation to salvage an F-35 aircraft.

Late last year, the U.S. Navy helped the British Royal Navy recover an F-35B fighter from the waters of the Mediterranean after it had crashed on takeoff from the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Perhaps the Glomar Explorer is available.

No need. It is in the interest of the Military and Arms Industry to make sure our enemies have competitive gear. They’ll just leak the info.

Well, the General Milley/Bill and Hillary/Joe and Hunter/Swalwell and Feinstein/ China Mitch types have probably already given China a heads up on any technological advances and possibly even the IP.

Reminds me of when the F-14 with full complement of Phoenix missiles went for a swim in the ‘70s. Huge fuss to retrieve it before the Soviet trawlers snagged it up.

Max depth of South China Sea is 16,000 ft (3 miles).

Deep sea recovery of a 29,000 lb (14 ton) aircraft will require Glomar Explorer type recovery vessel.

If somebody leaks it they will receive a bribe and China will save money.

Chinese would only want to compare it with the classified specifications they stole using Chinese graduate students and tech employees feeding secrets from the United States.

Betcha they’ve got all data already. After all, the Chinese only have to invoke the double super-secret DemocRAT “Freedom to have our classified information” act. Backed by some payola, of course.

You know how you keep a secret between 2 people? Make sure one of them is dead. The odds of the CHICOMS not having the plans with so many countries being involved in the development or the F35 seem very small.

I’ve heard that the Chinese keep people at the U.S. Patent Office to go over every patent as soon as it’s submitted, looking for ideas (to steal).

I’m just spit-balling here but...

Do the Chinese have an tracked underwater vehicle?

While we’re dithering on the surface, the Chinese just launch a few Glomar Explorers with a track chassis from the shore that haul it back up on the mainland. And we can’t do squat.

Hmmm... let’s keep this idea between you and me for now.

When you get into your next F35...be sure to check your CarFax. You never know when there is hidden water damage.

Locating the downed F-35 will be difficult under 3 miles of ocean unless the aircraft’s transponder is working. The aircraft’s trajectory to the floor of the ocean would be affected by currents and the wings of the craft.
