Well, the General Milley/Bill and Hillary/Joe and Hunter/Swalwell and Feinstein/ China Mitch types have probably already given China a heads up on any technological advances and possibly even the IP.

Reminds me of when the F-14 with full complement of Phoenix missiles went for a swim in the ‘70s. Huge fuss to retrieve it before the Soviet trawlers snagged it up.

Max depth of South China Sea is 16,000 ft (3 miles).

Deep sea recovery of a 29,000 lb (14 ton) aircraft will require Glomar Explorer type recovery vessel.

Chinese would only want to compare it with the classified specifications they stole using Chinese graduate students and tech employees feeding secrets from the United States.

When you get into your next F35...be sure to check your CarFax. You never know when there is hidden water damage.

The F-35 has already been purchased and delivered to Australia, Denmark, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, and the U.K.

Plus Turkey was a first tier partner during the development, until they were kicked out over their Russian S-400 missile purchase.

The F-35 was designed as an export fighter, and sooner or later Russia and China will both get specifications, samples of RAM coatings, and other classified information. it's inevitable.

Navy Exploring Options For Recovering F-35C That Fell Into The South China Sea
The lost F-35C would be an intelligence prize for any foreign power, such as Russia or China, making it a priority for the Navy to retrieve it first.

I remember something similar happening years ago with a Russian sub watching. The US then mounted a recovery operation to recover the aircraft.

Then there was that lost Russian sub Nixon tried to get raised with Howard Hughes help. It was the reason the Glomar Explorer was built.
Last I heard Russian warships now patrol that area to keep the US away.

Four decades ago, FF-1061 PATTERSON was steaming into the Red Sea with a carrier battle group when we were told to hang back to watch over the waters where an F-14 went down. The carrier moved on while we stood plane guard for, I believe it was, 5 or 6 weeks.
