Insured Older White Male Refused Treatment at a CVS "Minute Clinic"
Self ^ | January 19, 2022 | Self

Something's very wrong at CVS, and it isn't pretty. What really got me was when an older white female manager barged into the treatment room during my pre-scheduled 12:20 pm visit, angrily telling the nurse she wasn't allowed to treat me, because I was "out of network" (even though my policy is a PPO and I'd been treated at that facility numerous times over the past several years). At age 73, I pay $150 a month out-of-pocket to be covered by a United HealthCare Medicare Advantage Choice PPO policy which allows treatment by providers either in-network or out-of-network. When I got home and called United, their rep told me the only way CVS's Minute Clinic could accept my insurance is if I changed the policy to include proof of income eligibility for Medicaid, the federal government's insurance program for indigents. How in hell is CVS getting away with treating only indigents?

“They now do circumcisions at some locations with a Physician’s Assistant.”

Lord have mercy.

Second time I accessed their website it actually worked. Found four urgent care clinics locally that accept UHC Medicare Advantage Choice PPO plans similar to the one I have. Will see what happens when I check in and they run my data. Not holding my breath though. Thanks for all the suggestions.

CVS has always been a malfunctioning organization. They were the first company to withdraw support from the Boy Scouts over the homo issue.

CVS also doesn’t honor GoodRx discounts. I have a prescription that costs over $300 at CVS but I get filled at a grocery store pharmacy for $46 using GoodRx

What did this have to do with race?

Just eliminating that variable as a possible cause.

A nervous mohel asked me if I could get him an insurance policy for his business. I looked around and told him there was good news and bad news. The good news was I could get him a million bucks of coverage for a grand. The bad news was there was a one inch deductible.
