oh deer...
That’s a very impressive jump! He saw the man standing there with a phone, so he left. A fight or flight response.
It looks like a juvenile deer, still somewhat a Fawn, with the white spots showing on his back.
It was not uncommon to see deer and turkeys in our parking lot. One summer afternoon, I went to my car to leave, and there was a doe standing next to the fence. She got spooked by me and, from a standstill, leaped OVER THE FENCE. I think the hooves might have touched the top of the fence at the apex of her jump, but I don't remember for certain. It was quite an impressive display of power.
Iāve seen deer do some acrobatics. Not just high jumps, but also jumping between strands of barbed wire at high speed. Wouldnāt believe if I hadnāt seen it.
Gardeners around here know that some deer can clear an 8 foot fence.
Usually if I see a flying deer itās just been bounced off the front of a truck onto my car coming the other way.

And thatās why fencing to keep deer out of your garden doesnāt work. Thereās something you can do with peanut butter and fishing line but I forget what it is.
This reminds me of an experience I had on a school bus in East Texas when I was in high school in the 1960’s.
Our bus was traveling on a one lane dirt road out in the country when a deer came bounding across the pasture from the left, cleared a barbed wire fence, cleared the hood of the bus (we almost hit it!), and over the fence on the right side, to land in the right pasture and keep running like the devil was after him.
Here’s my deer story... One Saturday morning (I think it was in October or so about 15 years ago), I slid into the office to do a few catch up things. At about 10 am, I got a frantic call from a daughter who said that the house had just undergone a wicked thud and shudder.... and “can you please get home to see what it is”. I drove home and as I got close to the house, I’m seeing hoof marks that just miraculously disappeared. I ran to the back of the house and sure enough, there were the rest of the hoof marks which continued on and then disappeared at a 6’ hedge. My neighbor on that side was outside and asked me “Hey, did you happen to see that big buck that just went through here?”
This house was a single storey but it’s a split level and on one side, it might be as low as 7 to 8 feet to the eavestrough. I took pictures of the hoof prints knowing that no one would ever believe me.
I think in the movie Twister, they showed a cow flying through the air.
I had a deer jump my car once. I wouldn’t have known except my roof top antenna made a boing noise. I checked my car for damage but nothing.
Iām cute! Iām cute! She said Iām cuuuuuute!
In a car as a kid, on vacation, going through a cut in the rock a deer jumped from one side of the double lane to the other over the car just as we pasted. I was amazed.
