I have hit a wall with Covid.
I’ve done every stage of this pandemic: The “Tiger King” stage, the 10,000 steps a day phase, the adopting a dog phase, the regret of having adopted a dog phase, and the inability to imagine my life without the dog phase. And the sweatpants phase that I truly worry will never end.
I wore the mask (sometimes two). I sprayed down the groceries (remember that?). I’ve had my nostrils violated countless times. I’ve canceled plans. I’ve stayed home. And I got the vaccine the moment I could.
But two weeks and some 650 days into “flattening the curve,” I’m done. I don’t care what cable news is blaring on about these days: In this house, Covid is over. On New Year’s Eve, do you know who we hosted? Two beloved friends who were positive for Omicron and stuck at home alone with mild colds. I feel great about that decision. (And I’m still negative.)
But I’m out of step with my city. When I am asked to show my vaccine card at a bar—even though that says nothing about whether or not I’m actively transmitting Covid—I want to laugh. When I eat at a restaurant where the diners are unmasked but the staff are forced to don stormtrooper headgear and gloves, I wonder if people realize what this looks like. Or when friends ask me to swab my nose so we can hang out, well, I’ll do it only because I try to be polite.
Those of you reading this in states like Florida and Texas are probably patting yourself on the backs for your wise life choices.

I haven’t wasted my time doing any of that crap and I feel fine 🤪
Me either. The only time I wear a mask is where I am required to like in certain businesses. Otherwise I am just going about my business just like usual.
Ditto.
A lot of us down here in the free state of Florida watch what’s going on in much of the rest of the country and just shake our heads in disbelief.
I guess it’s true.......common sense ain’t so common anymore.
For the most part we are.
However, stupidity still finds us. I'm in Florida and a few days ago my girlfriend was in a Marshall's department store in Destin. An older woman with a mask on started screaming at a cashier who was probably all of twenty because few of the other customers were wearing masks and "social distancing". She had a meltdown in the store screaming at this poor girl that she needed to do something about all those people not wearing masks and standing too close to her.
It's snowbird season down here now and more than likely she was escaping the draconian BS in her northern state. We don't have mask mandates and we like it that way. If you don't like it then don't come to Florida. Amazingly we'll figure out how to survive without the tourist dollars of a few miserable nutcases.
My wife and I did the same thing. Only wore masks were required, but then we quit going places that require them.
We both got covid in August. After two weeks we were back to normal. We had about 40 people over to the house on New Year’s day for an open house.
No one got sick.
I did some of those things.
But never got a Covid test. And don’t plan to unless for some reason I am hospitalized and it’s a requirement for admission.
The giant Q-Tip up the nostril. Not doing it. Dumb to do it if you don’t have symptoms.
I pity any conservatives who were frightened into giving up two years of their life or that or their loved ones.
I don’t pity lefttards, they can suck my filthy white @…
“Or when friends ask me to swab my nose so we can hang out, well, I’ll do it only because I try to be polite.”
Yes, and it’s because people like you will still comply to be “polite” that this will madness will still not end.
Yeah. Unfortunately since I use the VA healthcare system it’s unavoidable.
Around Christmas 2020 I was exposed and my granddaughter said I couldn’t be aroun my great-grandson unless I got tested. I said okay, see ya later. She caved and called us to do activities and showed up at our house for Christmas. I’m pretty sure her husband talked some sense to her.
Omicron = Cold. The VAST majority of Covid cases were the flu, most deaths were because people were really old and really sick already. 2020 was a bad flu season, 2021 was death by vaxx.
I dunno what people are so concerned about. I'm always swabbing my nose.
Usually with my left pinky.
If I "strike gold" - well, there's usually some wallpaper nearby.

Omicron Makes Biden’s Vaccine Mandates Obsolete
Confirming data from elsewhere: “Data from Denmark and the Canadian province of Ontario indicate that vaccinated people have higher rates of Omicron infection than unvaccinated people.”
“There is no evidence so far that vaccines are reducing infections from the fast-spreading variant. ... there have been mass Omicron outbreaks in heavily vaccinated populations, scientists are highly uncertain the existing vaccines can stop it from spreading. ... there should be sufficient evidence that the vaccine is efficacious in preventing serious infection and/or transmission.” For Omicron, there is as yet no such evidence. ...
The little data we have suggest the opposite. One preprint study found that after 30 days the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines no longer had any statistically significant positive effect against Omicron infection, and after 90 days, their effect went negative—i.e., vaccinated people were more susceptible to Omicron infection. Confirming this negative efficacy finding, data from Denmark and the Canadian province of Ontario indicate that vaccinated people have higher rates of Omicron infection than unvaccinated people.”
