The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says three children survived after falling through an icy pond on Sunday.
Four juvenile relatives were playing on the ice, according to the sheriff’s office, when three of them fell through a pond located at The Addison at Cherry Creek apartments at 9100 E. Florida Ave around 3:24 p.m.
That’s when a bystander, identified as 23-year-old Dusti Talavera, jumped into the pond and pulled a 4-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy out of the water.
She tried to pull the third child, a 6-year-old girl out but struggled to do so, the sheriff’s office said. That’s when a 16-year-old boy, a cousin of the victim, arrived and jumped into the pond and helped Talavera.

Deputy David Rodriquez removed HER coat.
Great feel-good story...thanks.
True Heroes.
Shouldn’t a deep pond like this at very least be marked with some type of sign warning of Thin Ice?
I have never lived near a pond or a small body of water such as described here. Are there ever any warning signs posted for thin ice?
**So glad the stranger decided to get involved and not just film the tragedy with her cell phone.
There is nothing in existence like bringing someone back from the brink of death by CPR. I held a 2 year old girl in my arms in shoulder deep water performing CPR and saw the light come back into her eyes.
Everything else in life pales before that memory. The dead look in the eyes before CPR and the light returning. Praise God.
He removed her coat, not his own.
Thanks. It’s still early in the morning. Still getting my brain re-calibrated.
I was reading about this in the local news this morning. The young lady just dashed out of her residence as soon as she saw something wrong. She looked fine when they were interviewing her.
Icy water does slow the body metabolism enough to save lives which may otherwise be lost at normal temperatures. This is the Denver area. When I lived in Fargo, we had a case of a little boy who was underwater for over 10 minutes and rescued with no brain damage. It took him longer to recover from the hypothermia.
God bless you.
(Made me cry.)
Very groovy thing the good Lord gave us.
Little kids knock off in cold water often come right back.
That ain’t evolution.
That’s just, “It’s not your time yet, little one”.
A social worker was seen walking back to their car as the victims cried for help.
Seriously?
Thank you.
I’m pretty sure that coat was on the 6 YO girl that wasn’t breathing.
Quite a contrast to the woman who threw her baby in the dumpster the other day.
