The Georgia Bulldogs are college football national champions for the first time since the 1980 season after defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide, 33-18, in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday.
Thirty-seven days ago, Alabama beat Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, 41-24, to secure the top seed in the College Football Playoff. The rematch was a defensive affair for most of the game before the offenses sprung to life late. With two minutes left in the third quarter, the Crimson Tide led 9-6 and neither team had scored a touchdown.
With fewer than nine minutes left in the game, Alabama held a 18-13 lead, but the Bulldogs found the end zone three times in the fourth quarter to pull away. The dagger was a 79-yard interception return for a touchdown in the final minute of the game that ended the Crimson Tide's attempt at a game-tying drive and extended Georgia's lead to 15.

I liked Jack Cat’s take on the win: https://jackcatdaily.com
Wow. Didn’t even realize they were playing. Guess I really have cut the cord.
Ditto.
Congratulations Georgia Bulldogs!
It was one of the best College Championship games.
The first half was slow and boring, with Field Goals and the score was 6-9 Alabama at the half.
But the second half was all action! ..............
About time you won one, Georgia.
Waiting for SEC Shorts to come out, should be in a few minutes.
I need to watch the replay - completely forgot it was on
And Nick retires and Kirby takes the helm at Alabama...
And Nick Saban decides to return to the Miami Dolphins.
Congrats to the Dawgs on a good game.
While a Bama fan the Tide was not getting it done, they failed to punch it into the end zone and missed critical catches. No 2nd and 26 miracle this time.
No sour grapes, but expect the Tide to be back even better next year. RTR.
Good game! ...........................
Me too. I'm from Alabama originally (Texan since 1969) but I don't follow football these days AT ALL. I'm sure my relatives in Alabama are crushed.
Unless they are Auburn fans, I’m sure Auburn fans were very happy with the game.
If you’re a college football fan, that was an excellent game. Best two teams played IMO.
Any fans out there ever remember seeing a better college defense than Georgia?
Their receiving corp has been decimated. Young was running out of targets.
What is scary is that Bama should be unstoppable next year. Both offense and defense.
It was a great game. I’m glad the bogus fumble call didn’t cost Georgia the game. I saw Vince Dooley all night long. I’m sure Herschel Walker was there. I wonder why no face time for Hershel? ESPN libs.
SECond to NONE!...............
At least they did show some clips of Herschel playing in 1980, the last year they won the title. Not sure though if they mentioned his name.
