I'd like the ability to post by entering only the Source URL, clicking a button and having software populate the entries of Title, Author, Date Published, and Source. The user would still supply Topics and Keywords (if any). This would be optional -- the user could still fill out the fields as is done now.
It's good to have diversity of sites. Free Republic is text-heavy, which makes it easy and fast to scan many posts. But I do think the suggested feature would make it easier to use, like Reddit, where if you enter a URL, it generates a title.
I use Brave and it has some kind autofill feature.
All I have to do is click on the box I need to fill in and for most of the fields, not all, it brings up options of ones I’ve used before.
I don’t have to copy and paste everything everytime.
Good luck getting a response there. I never have.
Same here. Free Republic is still Internet 1.0.
The only improvement I wish for is embedded video, otherwise it's perfect.
What a wonderful site for hosting pics this must be. Enjoyed the polar bear images — best I’ve seen.
So the options are there.

Not all suggestions are good ones. put one in place at home once and see if your views change.
The best ever change to FR was the “preview” feature. Not enough people use it though.
The worst ever change was to automatically close open tags. (Just kidding, but exploiting that bug sure was fun at the time!)
Those posters (including me, with my Bible art series) have earned the right, by their previous responsible posting, to post more or less effortlessly.
A simple and practical change would to do a dupe check after the submit button is clicked. Two posters search to see if articles “xyz...” was already posted. Negative search results so both start formatting up the post and then submit. Boom dupes. Post submit checking should be fast, assuming the titles are indexed. You could even limit the dupe check to within the last N days.
Hmmm...
In that case, I’d like to suggest that FR also provide assistance to us old-timers after snowstorms by shoveling the snow for us...
We would just enter our address and go back to bed...
Makes one wonder where all that money goes that is donated.
Thanks for your post regarding suggestions.
I posted the film because I like historical perspectives.
A few thoughts.
1) suggestions can flow up and down
2) suggestions can be for the good of the organization or personal to one individual.
3) A suggestion box can be real or fake, depending on mgt, workers and situation.
4) not all suggestions are good ones.
5) not all suggestions can be addressed or responded to. resources are limited. Especially a lean organization such as FR.
Here’s the problem with ‘easier to post’: Years back - when Hillary the wicked Witch noticed the internet had influence she hired people to shut down communication between citizens by throwing monkey wrenches into every conversation. The people paid shifts covering 24/7 to disrupt conversations - over-post, change subjects, ask questions people had answered a hundred times and drown out good answers that slammed the witch.
And here? Some people were doing broad based searches with no intent of staying on the thread - they just wanted to keep the system moving. Stories others might want to read were buried. Jim found work arounds... Anyhow in the old day it was an honor to make your first post - and people worked at posting things they felt were important to share. The ‘quantity’ thing happened later.
If it takes time to make a post it keeps liberal scum of the earth liars from destabilizing the site. Anything liberals/commies/progressives touch starts dying and rotting. Making it easy is like posting a sign for liberals to come and poop on the site.

Interesting. Thanks for that info. I really don’t know much about hosting a site like this. That makes a lot of sense.
This is because more Freepers have lives and they are not shut-ins who carefully scrutinize every post that comes in.
Most posts "die on the vine" within a few hours.
So duplicate posts increase the chances of Freepers getting the most important information.
I’d like to be able to show home movies. Oh,and pictures of what I had for dinner at night.

I don’t know what made me think of this. But edit would be nice.
And what you ate for breakfast every morning...
It’s not hard to keep track of which posts you have already scanned the titles of. If you see the page has clicked links, you know you’ve been there before and so keep paging. Why is that difficult?
