Cars are bad, mmkay…
And that's why a new French law will require car commercials to "display messages that encourage walking, cycling, carpooling or public transit."
I'm not joking.
Very serious stuff right here.
Like, we'll let you advertise your carbon-emitting vehicle, but you must display this little message here that encourages people to pursue alternative forms of transportation.
Deal?
Deal.
Such a joke!
Much like the "Please enjoy responsibly" disclaimers on ads for alcoholic beverages, or health warnings on cigarette packaging, car commercials will be required to display messages that encourage walking, cycling, carpooling or public transit.
These messages include "For short trips, choose to walk or cycle," "Think about carpooling," and "Take public transit daily"...
The messages must be written in an "easily identifiable and distinct" space on screen, followed by the hashtag #SeDéplacerMoinsPolluer, which translates to "Move without pollution." For radio ads, the messages must be spoken immediately after the advertisement.
This will definitely help curb carbon emissions.
Definitely!
Oh, and the car companies better take this seriously, because these folks ain't messin' round.
If a car company doesn't display these messages in their commercial, it will result in a fine of up to €50,000.
LOOK OUT, CAR COMPANIES!!!
They're coming for ya!
France also passed sweeping new climate regulations last summer that would ban certain cars from dense city centres, require automobile manufacturers to disclose the climate impact of their products in their ads and eventually phase out the sale of diesel and gasoline vehicles by 2040.
To me, it's cute that they're forcing car commercials to feature messages encouraging alternative forms of transportation.
Because it won't be long before the French people will be forced to use these "alternatives."
Many cars & SUVs show owners loading bikes on racks.
On a related note, French companies know not to waste advertising dollars on deodorant for French men and women who work up a sweat while walking.
“What did pedestrians do for transportation before socialism?
They used cars.”
By definition, pedestrians walks.
Before socialism, there were no cars.
TPTB really don’t want the little people driving

It helps if you can push, too.
Votre voiture, Monsieur President, s’il vous plaît!
Non!
Socialist theory had to exist before people used it to befoul civilization.
The first experimental steam powered vehicles were in the 18th century … well before even theoretical socialism was formalized.
“Socialist theory had to exist before people used it to befoul civilization.”
People befouled civilization with socialism long before Marx.
Actually, riding a bicycle is FAR MORE DANGEROUS to one’s health than driving.
After a fashion.
But it wasn’t until men started to have liberty and wide spread private enterprise happened and elevated many from the too frequent historical abject poverty that secular socialism could count on having other people’s money to fritter away.
Now socialists are busy trying to bring back that abject poverty.
It’s similar to their requirements for all food ads (for your health, move more) and alcohol ads (for your health, drink less). I always chuckle when I hear it. The message is always at the end of the ad.
