I hadn’t realized, until I had lived elsewhere for some time, that I had learned to operate under the assumption that I couldn’t trust folks to follow through on their commitments. That there was always an underlying assumption that folks usually had an ulterior motive when being helpful. I hadn’t realized until I lived in a place in which folks truly value character, kindness and friendship, that I had been living in a place which prioritized material status and image. I hadn’t realized until I lived in a place with a healthy distrust of authority, that I had been living in a place with an almost religious reverence for government.

wow, great story. THanks for sharing.
Definitely a worthwhile read. Even gives one hope that people really are starting to awaken from their slumber. Hopefully, this awakening will continue and the growth will become exponential and soon, very soon, before the dream is forever a memory only to those who knew it.
And yet she’ll still vote lefty. Read the first response to the posting at the site.
I go to Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and sometimes Kansas for a couple of weeks every year. To visit family. They all laugh at me when I say…..why are they talking to me? I don’t like them talking to me. I don’t talk to people and it really annoys me that everywhere we go people are just chatting away with whichever family member I’m with. They think it’s funny as heck.
We were in Branson and I was driving. Just lines of traffic on the Main Street and I had my signal on to turn left across it. A guy actually stopped, held up traffic, and motioned for me to go. I said……what the hell is he doing?!?!?! My cousin laughed and said….he’s being nice. It’s really hard when you’re not used to it. 😂😂
I’ve seen variations of the “We Believe” sign: Love is love (gay everything), Women-Choice (abortion), No person is illegal (import welfare clients/Democrat voters), I believe in Science (a worldwide socialist economy to fight “climate change”). Ugh.
I read the first response....I’m confused. First, what does a response from someone else have to do with the author.......and 2nd, the responder herself sounds conservative.
No she doesn’t. She thinks it’s everyone else’s fault CA sucks, but she seems to me a mirror image of everything she’s condemning.
She posted the “we believe” sign to show how fake Californians are. That’s clear from reading the article.
She sounds wonderful to me. I’d welcome her as a neighbor any day.
Life in NYC is much the same, but without the natural beauty, European city-scale, and nice weather.
And New Yorkers have major-league masochism.
We’ve had a large number of Cali transplants in the last few months. Unit from Cali brought a lot of families with them. Despite having friends from NYC, I always thought people from NYC could be dicks. But, these self righteous arrogant California transplant have them beat. They will either clump together and whine about living here or adapt. I suspect few will adapt. To make it worse the majority are military wives, they wear their husbands rank and act like they should be given deferential treatment. For military transplants you either adapt to the south or you will remain a tourist for your tour here and never really see the true beauty of the State.
The weather is unbeatable in California!
I lived for 2 years in San Diego/Coronado in the 80’s. Loved it but my heart always longed for Texas people so I was transferred back. Great experience. I married a man who flew back and forth weekly for years (2000). So, I was spoiled in that I could spend some of August in the bay area! I would drop him off at work and go to BART for Mission St.!! I would spend the day in San Francisco hiking, people watching and a little shopping. Got to know a few people as I would frequent their shops. They were lovely! We’d sit and talk for an hour!!
Now, when we go (haven’t been since covid), I would not even take BART anywhere alone and don’t want to go with my husband since we’ve been semi-threatened by homies and drugged folks several times, care not even to walk through SF homeless gross on the street filth, etc.
We made several contacts in Milpitas and loved these kind people who we asked for by name when eating in their establishments. They respected us since we respected them! They knew us by name! When we left they’d let us know our hearts were together in Jesus! One lady always told us, “Blessings! We are blessed and highly favored!” Not even in Texas do we hear that.
Stay and fight! We pray for a revival in California! This is happening with Mario Marillo’s tent revivals where great miracles happen. This is God’s America and God gave us California. We just have to tell Satan to hop the ocean and exit!
Welcome Californians! We just saw an Austin billboard yesterday near the airport something about thanking Elon for getting us out of our box. Not sure of it all as I was driving!
God Bless America in 2022!!!
You didn’t notice she was Complaining about that sign?
Thanks for your post. Although they’re outnumbered, and in spite of CA governments tireless efforts, there are still many fine people here.
I read most of the piece until I started to feel like I would vomit.
It’s always nice to have plenty of money to work with, isn’t it? Good luck to you, Nice Lady.
Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, so you only get mugged and robbed. C’mon , man it’s not like Chicago or Dee-troit.
During our 18 MO stay in CA we noticed that Californians imagine that the rest of the country wishes they could move there. Bubble thinking.
I saw this in the early ‘90s. A serendipitous layoff in 1994 opened the door to a transfer to southern New Hampshire, where I now reside in retirement.
My understanding of showing the We Believes sign was to demonstrate that those were all inclusive and revealing that the people with those signs felt better about themselves than you, because they care and you don’t. So they matter, and you don’t.
In reality, the signs identify hypocrisy. And make it easier to avoid dealing with hypocrites.
I think that the article was well written, and demonstrated that the author is no longer what she once was, and no longer what she misunderstood that she had to be.
She sounds like she has become a better person.
Nearly the whole neighborhood around here is now from CA.
Two of the bunch are real busy bodies. Poking their noses into every neighbors business.
The one family has been issued a court restraining order last month for doing that. After The sheriffs dept had warned them to quit with the crap, they kept it up and the other neighbor got sick of it and went down to the court and got the order.
