I hadn’t realized, until I had lived elsewhere for some time, that I had learned to operate under the assumption that I couldn’t trust folks to follow through on their commitments. That there was always an underlying assumption that folks usually had an ulterior motive when being helpful. I hadn’t realized until I lived in a place in which folks truly value character, kindness and friendship, that I had been living in a place which prioritized material status and image. I hadn’t realized until I lived in a place with a healthy distrust of authority, that I had been living in a place with an almost religious reverence for government.

I remember a line from a book about Hollywood, “they talk like hippies but act like the mafia!” Typical of posers.
This is happening in Florida. I have just read that the Republicans just passed the Dems in numbers for the first time in a long time. Here’s hoping it stays that way.
Every single person I see moving to Texas from California is conservative. Literally thousands on FB pages. Virtually every single one.
Thats what I’m seeing too, excluding the big company group moves.
Meanwhile PA is being seeded with people who are not conservative, and whose values are at least as materialistic as CA’s. Think moochers and outright looters, many with an incentive the affluent in CA don’t have: poverty.
I’m not sure it’s a geographical thing anyway, or a have/have not thing. Some people just feel entitled to mooch and steal; the reason is only a convenient rationale. Government does make it easier to come up with the rationale.
There are still places in CA with real people. They are far from the coastal cities, but the people are badly outnumbered by the morons in the cities.
Not a word here from Anne Mason about voting to defeat Democrats. Hmmmm... Does she get it really?
And yet I guarantee these horrible humans still vote for democrats.
I don’t know. The article is about people, not politics.
Good point and we need to remember that. California has millions of good conservatives. It’s really 2 states. The loons and sheep just outnumber the good folks.
Read the ARTICLE and not just this excerpt....and check out the we believe sign picture.
This person still does NOT get it. Poor Texas etc.
The Cali people should stay in Cali and fix the state that they screwed up and NOT move to Texas. We have a few Cali people here and they are all stuck ups.
Helotes Texas. An excellent place to live, just outside San Antonio:

They hold the San Antonio Scottish Highland Games there in Helotes annually in the spring.
Oh, I understand that. But there is a reason for the vast difference in the cultures. It is begging to be explored here. But, maybe she is leading the donkeys to water subtly.
“That there was always an underlying assumption that folks usually had an ulterior motive when being helpful.”
LOL! That was EXACTLY my husband’s attitude when we moved from CA to TN, and it took about six months before he said, “I don’t think they’re putting on an act.”
I was raised in rural western NY with people exactly like those here in eastern TN — conservative, plain, caring, religious, kind, etc. He was raised in SoCal, and if people are nice to you THEY WANT SOMETHING from you.
The week we moved in we were checking out at the grocery store in Kingston and the clerk recognized us as being new and asked where we went to church. Not, “DO you go to church”, but “where do you go?” She invited us to hers. Then people behind us started inviting us to their churches. It was funny, and very cool.
It was a kind of culture shock for him. Now he’s into it.
If I could move the weather and have my magnificent views somewhere else ,I’d move. In the meantime I’m staying and will link up with other like minded people. There’s a lot of conservatives still here in Mexifornia. I lived in Lewisville Texas for a year in 83. It was okay. But I longed for the mighty Sierra Nevada and the relative mild weather and low humidity. So here I am and going to stay and fight.
So the author has made the first step - now she will be more willing to listen to the argument that, after all, the Democrats are not really nice people who wisely spend public funds on the downtrodden. Without the constant reinforcement of peer pressure, it is hard for a liberal to stay liberal. This does not apply to Leftists, of course, but then those types are far less likely to leave a state where their opinions are reinforced.
Uh, if you read the article, she is using that “we believe” sign to show how phoney and fake they are. Read it again please.
