The Tournament of Roses Parade formerly was meant to be a celebration and affirmation of the new year's beginning. But in 2020, the parade included a horrifying dystopian vision on an award-winning float yesterday. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation sponsored a float title “vaccinate the world” in 2 places, featuring a robot that apparently would vaccinate all, with no human involvement needed (except as subjects, willing or not). The float was even the winner of Queen award for most outstanding presentation of roses.

My husband and I went out to lunch at a sports bar yesterday. One of screens was showing the parade. I gasped out loud when I saw that float. What a world we live in today! It’s awful!

Rotary International’s 33rd consecutive entry in the Tournament of Roses Parade, “Inching Towards The End of Polio,” celebrated the work of Rotarians worldwide as they strive to eradicate the paralyzing and deadly disease. The 22 foot tall Inchworm featured a MD’s head mirror, stethoscope and medical journal emblazoned with the caduceus. The 35-foot long “inchworm” was nestled in a field of flowers with eight riders from Rotary balanced among the dueling purple butterflies.

I had already switched over to “The Twilight Zone” marathon on the Decades channel. It’s still under way.
And what’s with the Marines unfurling the U.S. flag? They were playing Beach Boys music at that point.
I love the Beach Boys as much as the next guy, but they should have been playing “The Star Spangled Banner” or “America The Beautiful” or “The Marine Corps Hymn.”
