I will be visiting my close friend, who lives in Central GA,
at the end of January or early February.
We're considering a trip down to Plains, GA from where he is (roughly 1 hour away).
I wasn't alive during Carter's presidency, but my understanding is that he
wrecked the economy, fueled hyperinflation, helped expedite the decline of American Public Education via the creation of the unconstitutional DOE,
and was a massive anti-Semite.
In other words, he was a raving leftist who did more harm than good to this nation.
However, I will give Carter some credit. I admire his ascension to the presidency in lieu of his humble beginnings.
I'll always respect the work ethic of a peanut farmer over the work ethic of a diversity consultant or a 'legislative aide' to another entrenched swamp-deller.
He also seems to hold his Christian faith dearly.
Nonetheless, I feel a bit guilty travelling to Plains and visiting sites that pay tribute to someone who did irrevocable damage to America.
I will admit that I'm intrigued by the peanut 'culture' of the community and would like to learn more about the history of Plains. Plus, the Carter/Peanut statue looks really funny and would make a good photo-op.
Would you feel funny going or do you think I'm being too snowflakey here?
Absolutely not, enjoy.
Some might here label you a traitor, but it’s been 40 years since he was President.
So, have a good time.
Just don’t use indoor plumbing while you’re there.
You’ll enjoy the trip. I live not far so I can say from experience it will be a good day.
I love national parks. I haven’t gone to that one.
Enjoy!
We promise not to tell your mom and dad——who respect this nation deeply by the way. 😇 Just kidding.
Do you really need the approval of other FReepers to visit the park? It’s pretty sad for you to even ask the question.
Go and enjoy.
Really no different than McDonald’s or Walmart here - it’s ok to go to both, but NEVER admit it. Instead, trash them at every opportunity.
Ain’t much there to see...
Its never wrong to study, learn and experience history.
Enjoy yourself and have a safe and happy 2022!
“I wasn’t alive during the Carter presidency”
Don’t worry.
Most of Carter’s Cabinet wasn’t alive during his presidency.
My thoughts exactly.
I have always heard Mr. Carter was a fine person, but simply a poor president for what the country needed at that time.
I’ve heard Carter often had trouble delegating authority to others in his administration, vs trying to micromanage all of it himself. I was going through college during most this time, then joined the Navy, so I wasn’t really paying close attention of any Washington Whispers.
Learning about something is not the same as endorsing it. That is an idea that the left falsely created so that they could try to control what people see, learn about, and know.
“...respect the work ethic of a peanut farmer
over the work ethic of a diversity consultant...”

You give him way more credit than I do.
His brother Billy was a bigger anti-Semite than Jimmah is. Having said that, you can’t change what the park is named, it’s not your fault. Enjoy it. Oh, if you’re going to be in Central GA, consider seeing Providence Canyon State Park, home of GA’s Little Grand Canyon. Look it up. I hiked part of it, and sport the park medallion on my hiking stick (among others). Interesting story, and views.
He’s part of our country’s history that shouldn’t be ignored nor rewritten. He was an Annapolis grad too which is no mean feat. Enjoy yourself!
Nope.
I am very distantly related to Rosalynn Smith Carter,
yet I have never had the desire to visit there.
