“In Wickramasinghe’s own words, “Comets are the carriers and distributors of life in the cosmos, and life on Earth arose and developed as a result of cometary inputs.”

It’s called PanSpermia.

Ancient Aliens (History TV) refers to it frequently.

If you examine the structure of the tobacco virus, it resembles a mini space ship that could drift though space for billions of years conceivably with its nucleic acids intact. Always thought it could be the inspiration of some interesting science fiction. Apparently others thought the same.

Several years ago I saw a documentary about testing the intelligence of octopi.

The test which I remember was of an octopus being put into a cage which was locked with a type of combination lock which the octopus was able to manipulate from inside the cage.

The different octopi were able to figure out the combinations quickly and escape from the cage.

But that’s not all...

When an octopus which had learned the lock combination reproduced, the baby octopus was born knowing the lock combination.

It cracks me up. These elite “scientists” cannot acknowledge creation. Alien life, sure, but where did that come from? It’s sort of like the people who think you just plug an electric car into the wall and charge it. No concept of its origin.

I’ve heard this theory proposed before. Octopuses are odd creatures. Radial symmetry, copper-based (!!) blue blood, ability to color-shift its skin for camouflage, dog-like level of intelligence.

In my grandmother’s lifetime the notions of powered flight, space flight, and television were all considered ludicrous by ‘sensible’ people.

Hell, the notion of a Donald Trump presidency was mocked and ridiculed right here on FR as ridiculous, absurd, a clown show, and etc.

Silly theory. Anybody find viruses in today's Comets? Things happen very slowly in the far reaches of space so if viruses were there , they'd still be there for us to discover.

What was the cause of the Cambrian explosion then? Lots of oxygen. Earth was once an ice-ball from pole to pole. Volcanoes eventually pumped out enough carbon dioxide to warm up the planet. That in turn made plant growth go wild. Plants make oxygen so they created it in vast amounts. Suddenly animals are given a boost of energy and that is why evolution happened so quickly after so many years under the ice.

I think it is not that far fetched and a more valid theory than complex life appearing from nothing.

We know some eggs, embryos and sperm/pollen can be frozen indefinitely.

It’s possible to have a planetary impact so massive that rocks with life deep in their crevices are ejected into orbit and flash frozen in space. These rocks can then travel for millions of years with the center in a cryogenic state and protected from radiation.

If the rock happens to fall on a suitable planet one day, life can thaw, exit the crevices and live on.

I think we are far from alone and the Universe is big game of cosmic billiards far beyond the scale of any human. In our very limited lifetime here, most of us don’t even get to see one “ball” so it seems far fetched. But over millions of years, there have been many rocks that arrived from very distant places.
