General Motors (GM) plans on going beyond manufacturing a fleet of electric cars, according to an announcement Wednesday regarding electrification component sets, which are capable of converting most old gasoline-powered automobiles into new-age electric vehicles (EV).
The technology will be used for EV conversion projects and GM expects to target a group of diverse commercial clients and enable them to meet their sustainability targets. Electrification components will open up new business avenues and the company estimates a market growth of $20 billion by 2030 with the increasing demand for zero-emissions technology.

Come home, park in the driveway, plug it in to charge, leave it charging all night. What if you RENT?
Will there be chargers that can plugin to your house's 15 ampere circuits?

Why?
No matter which ‘engine’ you happen to be using at the time, you are dragging around the useless weight of the other one!

There should be a law that says an electric car can only be towed by an electric tow truck.

I have no idea why everyone is capitulating and embracing this whole concept at all. 'Everyone' ain't!
Only the folks who do little daily driving and take no long trips.

That’s nice; but how much does GM charge (NPI) for the battery?

Electric cars have way more “MPG” than gasoline cars. Sorry, but there is NO equivalent electric rating that compares to MPgallon.

I doubt that I could engineer and build one either.

EV’s have no transmissions per se; Actually; they do. There's no reverse gear as the motor can spin backward for this function.
Like most EVs on the road, the Bolt EV’s drive system uses a single high capacity electric motor to propel the car. But it’s the smooth, powerful and quiet motor design, gear configuration and shift-by-wire system that separates it from the pack.
The engineering team designed the Bolt EV’s electric motor with an offset gear and shaft configuration tailored to meet efficiency and performance targets – most notably more than an estimated 200 miles of range. The motor is capable of producing up to 266 lb.-ft. (360 Nm) of torque and 200 hp (150 kW) of motoring power. Combined with a 7.05:1 final drive ratio, it helps propel the Bolt EV from 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds.

Power delivery is controlled by Chevrolet’s first Electronic Precision Shift system. This shift and park-by-wire system sends electronic signals to the Bolt EV’s drive unit to manage precise feel and delivery of power and torque, based on drive mode selection and accelerator inputs. A by-wire shifter requires less packaging space than a traditional mechanical shifter, resulting in more interior space and improved interior layout.

My BIL was going to show off in a blizzard with his new 4x4 Chevy pickup.
He slogged over to my house and came in bragging how he’d passed so many other dudes stuck in the snow.
When he went to leave, he couldn’t.
Due to the fact he’d driven up a big snow pile I had made by shoveling the drive.
He was now perched on top with little to no weight on the tires.
Smugly I asked, “Wanna borrow my shovel?”
